Volunteer Development Officer, 24.5 hours per week, £23,448.41 pro-rata, office-based in Newcastle, fixed term to March 2018
Family Lives is a leading family support charity. We provide 24 hour support, seven days a week through a range of innovative and integrated services. We are seeking to recruit a Volunteer Development Officer in the North East, developing and delivering targeted peer parenting support to older people who are kinship carers, in partnership with Grandparents Plus and the Family and Childcare Trust. The post is funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
The post holder will be responsible for recruitment of volunteers for the project, including advertising and carrying out interviews. You will also be responsible for the training, management and supervision of volunteers, as well as matching volunteers to kinship carers who need support. The role will also include working in partnership with local organisations, monitoring feedback from volunteers and completing reports.
You will need to have experience of volunteer recruitment and training as well as experience of managing volunteers. The successful candidate will have knowledge of the role of volunteers in community projects. You will also have the ability to use your own initiative. The successful candidate will possess excellent organisational and administrative skills. Comprehensive knowledge of local agencies, networks and partnerships within the area of family support is required. You will also be required to travel to different community venues for meeting volunteers and other stakeholders.
As a condition of appointment to this post you are required to hold an OCN Level 3 accreditation in parenting practitioner skills or equivalent or be willing to pursue, and to have achieved it, within 6 months of your start date.
The post holder requires excellent communication skills, both written and oral. You will need to keep volunteers, service users and partner organisations well informed about the project and resolve any issues in the delivery of the project. The post holder will be office based at Meadow Well Community Centre in the North Shields area of Newcastle. Regular travel around the Newcastle, Durham and Middlesbrough areas will be required across areas where public transport is limited, so a full driving licence and a car or suitable alternative means of travelling are required.
