I am looking for a quantity surveyor with estimating skills to join a thriving local contractor based on the outskirts of Exeter. They are a company working in the construction industry specialising in building and carpentry with more than 10 years of experience, operating throughout the South West. They provide a full range of services including design, build, refurbishment, restoration and maintenance for both public and private sectors. They employ up to 40 carpenters and run projects from the low £000s in value up to £3million. They maintain an excellent standard of Health and Safety performance and are proud to be CHAS accredited.

There is a good basic salary of between £35,000 and £40,000 and mileage will be paid for any site visits. In return they are looking for a Q/S with good general construction knowledge a demonstrable track record on new build, refurb and heritage schemes.


Based in their office on the outskirts of Exeter, with regular site visits; own transport essential (mileage paid). 

Preparing tender documents, including BoQs

Preparing contract documents between client and Eaton Carpentry

Preparation and analysing costings for tenders

Establishing / maintaining good working relationships with contractors and clients

Allocating works to subcontractors, different trades, rates, etc. 


Involvement in projects from start (estimating) to finish (final accounts)

Ensuring all variations are picked up on site

Responding quickly to contractors queries, i.e. pricing extras, queries, back up information

Measures on site

Understanding contracts

Preparing applications

Agreeing and finalising accounts

Contractual claims

Maintain high quality standards and program

Project budgets and targets

Understanding of statutory building regulations

Cost analysis throughout job

Valuing completed works by subcontractors and arranging payments

Identifying risk control

Understanding implications of H&S regulations 
Essential skills

Confident use of Microsoft Office packages, especially Excel

Take measures

Understanding of drawings and plans

Previous experience of Project Management

Clean driving licence
