Independent Chair of the Birmingham Safeguarding Adults Board

Remuneration: £600 per day for a maximum of 35 days per year.

This position is hosted by Birmingham City Council and its employment status is treated as being “on payroll” for HMRC purposes.

Birmingham Safeguarding Adults Board believes that adults should be able to live their lives free of neglect or abuse. We are working to build the broadest possible partnership of communities, organisations and citizens who meet, work with or represent all vulnerable adults to ensure the safety of adults with care and support needs.  We want our city’s safeguarding arrangements to fully reflect the views and priorities of the people of Birmingham, demonstrably meeting their needs and their desired outcomes.

We are looking to appoint an experienced, highly motivated and effective leader who shares this vision to be our first Independent Chair. You will champion the safeguarding of adults with care and support needs and lead us to achieve our ambitions.

You will have extensive experience of developing strong and productive partnerships at an executive level, a sound knowledge of the legal, strategic and operational issues involved in adult safeguarding and a real desire to develop community resilience. You will need to be able to demonstrate that you can lead the development and sustainability of our partnership, so that the voice of citizens is heard and directly influences safeguarding arrangements in our great city.

You will be assisted by the Board’s Support Team, the Vice Chair and the Chair of the Board’s Scrutiny and Governance Committee.

If you feel that you have the strategic vision and personal qualities to successfully lead the continued development of our Board and deliver its Strategic Plan, we would like to hear from you.

Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
