The English Heritage Trust is responsible for some of Cornwall's most important historic sites. You will lead the operational team at Tintagel Castle, steer the staffed Cornwall sites as a whole to deliver an inspirational experience to almost 400k visitors every year, and engage with key stakeholders in order to collaborate effectively with partners. The Head of Operations must be adept at multi-site management, confidently leading the team to achieve the English Heritage Trust`s conservation, visitor experience and financial sustainability objectives.

This senior role reports directly to the Historic Properties Director - West. The position will be based at Tintagel Castle, a site which you will directly manage in addition to having responsibility for the other staffed properties in our care in Cornwall. Tintagel Castle is the charity's 4th busiest site and plans for the future include an exciting £4m project to install a beautifully designed footbridge to restore the historic link to the island. As well as managing the sites to exemplary presentation and safety standards, the role will have a clear focus on driving visitor income in order to support our charitable aims. Strategic planning and operational delivery following capital investment projects form a key part of this role. The role will also involve building productive relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external. As such, travel with some evening and weekend working, will be required.

In addition to senior operational experience you will need to have a track record of achieving commercial success against stretching targets. As an innovative, dynamic and commercially adept leader you will have excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of partners. Experience with effective management of large and complex budgets as well as the development of sound investment cases and business strategies will be essential. An appreciation of Cornwall`s unique setting, history and culture as well as an understanding of the historic environment is highly desirable.

We protect an internationally-important collection of over 400 historic sites and half a million artefacts and we inspire over 10 million people a year to value, visit and enjoy them. You will be enjoy the rewards of working as part of a great team based at an inspiring location, helping to make our sites in Cornwall wonderful places to visit and work.

An assessment centre will be held on 14 December 2016 in Bristol with final interviews in early January 2017.
