Assystem are currently looking for Space Thermal Engineers.

Space Thermal Engineering is a challenging role due to the interpretation of various thermal loading in space besides the transient start up and initial orbital loading. Working within one or a number of multi-disciplinary teams, the engineer will deliver world-class component designs, by applying the latest analysis techniques, software and methods.

The engineer will support the thermal analysis and design of the next generation telecommunications missions primarily supporting the thermal modelling of Antenna and Propulsion system.

While the initial phase will require the engineer to be based on client site working on challenging tasks as part of the client's team, the objective is to develop an Assystem team and manage tasks off-loaded by the client while continue working as part of client's team and being the front end to the client.

Key Responsibilities:

*Work to specification with correct interpretation of thermal requirements.
*Independently complete and plan with supervision thermal analyses and support test activities.
*As part of the multidisciplinary team, ensure configuration / detailed design incorporates key features necessary to enable subsystem, design for manufacture, integration and required hardware re-use.
*Technical presentation of thermal analyses and interpretation of test results, observations and conclusions to experts and at formal reviews.
*Prepare and maintain plans, work package descriptions, schedules and risks as to ensure tasks / activities are completed on time, on quality and on cost.
*Regular interfacing with project team to answer technical queries and report progress.
*Use the knowledge built during the initial on-site duration to develop the team at Assystem and coordinate work packages between Assystem and client. Supervision (with local support) of the Assystem team will form part of this coordination.

Background Knowledge:

*Proven understanding of thermal analyses principles and expected performance.
*Understanding of Thermal test requirements including supporting test schedules, post-test assessment and thermal model to test correlation.
*Awareness of thermal systems to establish design drivers to be assessed and focused on.

Essential Experience:

*Worked on thermal analyses supporting design of telecommunication satellites antenna feed systems.
*Thermal analyses of waveguides, RF components, brackets and antenna radiator design over the entire life cycle.
*Assessing thermal gradients due to RF losses and environment fluxes.
*Definition of thermal control hardware and MLI blankets.
*Creation of reduced thermal model of the antenna.
*Thermal test cycle definition and test support.

Preferred Experience:
*Thermal modelling of pipework and propulsion equipment, including propellant in transient simulation.
*Propellant tank modelling and heater sizing.
*Thruster and Main Engine firing analyses, including assessment of MLI configuration.
*Integration of propulsion thermal model into the large spacecraft model for coupled analyses.
*Correlation activities from thermal testing and in-orbit measurements.
