Job Summary

The Department for the Enhancement of Learning, Teaching and Access (DELTA) are seeking an enthusiastic and creative e-Content Developer to join the e-Learning Team.

Working closely with DELTA colleagues and content specialists, your role will include an emphasis on supporting the development of the university’s course portfolio.  This will include, for example, working on the development and launch of short courses aimed at those in both technical and professional workplace roles.

You will be required to review source content and identify how and where to use graphics, audio, video and interactivity to promote staff and student engagement. In addition to excellent online communication skills, you should have a good working knowledge of rapid authoring software and an understanding of optimising content for online delivery.

Working within a busy team, the role will require a high degree of organisational skills, attention to detail and willingness to learn new applications and approaches. The role will provide a good opportunity for professional development.

Salary on first appointment is normally to the bottom of the scale, although in exceptional circumstances an appointment further up the scale may be considered.

Job Description


RESPONSIBLE FOR:No supervisory responsibility

PURPOSE OF POST: To support the development, promotion and maintenance of DELTA's online resources.


  • Develop DELTA's online resources for staff through the appropriate design and incorporation of multimedia and interaction to enhance the usability and presentation of content.
  • Support the development and maintenance of DELTA's internal facing staff support resources on Moodle and SharePoint platforms.
  • Support the development and maintenance of DELTA's public facing web presence.
  • Liaison with subject matter experts (LEC's, e-Learning Staff and externals) to conceptualise and implement engaging and interactive e-learning/online content.
  • Assist with the creation of content templates and graphics for staff use across a variety of existing, and future, authoring packages to help encourage consistency, efficiency of authoring and alignment with RGU branding and guidelines.
  • Assist with the development and promotion of VLE (course and module) study area templates to enhance consistency and efficiency of construction.
  • Other design and development related tasks as required.

Qualifications and Professional Memberships

  • Knowledge of e-learning instructional design methodologies and storyboarding techniques.
  • Skilled in the use of rapid content development tools such as: Articulate Suite/Storyline, Panopto, etc.
  • Graphic Design for web and print (e.g. Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop).
  • Expertise/Advance user of Microsoft Office 2013, especially PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of the pedagogical issues associated with e-Learning.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge and experience in the creation of interactive electronic content for learning and/or training using rapid eLearning products (e.g. Storyline) and/or web technologies (e.g. HTML/CSS/jQuery).
  • Development and construction of media-rich content within a VLE (e.g. Moodle, Blackboard).
  • Liaising with Subject Matter Experts to gather resources and communicate ideas.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills with ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.


Qualifications and Professional Memberships

  • Proficient in Adobe InDesign (interactive documents and templates).
  • Adobe Suite for Video Production/Editing (Premier/Adobe Effects).
  • Awareness of e-learning and web accessibility standards (e.g. SCORM, Tin Can).
  • Understanding of content development utilising JQuery/CSS/HTML.

 Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience of developing and maintaining rich content on a Web CMS (e.g. Farcry /Joomla/Drupal).
  • Experience/awareness of developing content for mobile devices/learning.
