YMCA is embarking on an exciting and ambitious development of our youth and community activities, ensuring that our various services work in an integrated and responsive way.  Our youth and community activities are themed by general youth work, project based, mobile and mentoring. YMCA aims to ensure that each young person can progress between our specialisms in each location and, where possible, each neighbourhood.



With that, YMCA is currently recruiting for an experienced Wellbeing Worker to join the Youth team based in Watford. Reporting in to the Lead Youth Worker; the Wellbeing Worker is a new role, created to help support the youth team’s delivery of centre based youth work with young people aged 11-25, by bringing a greater focus on mental wellbeing to all activities. This will include up to 3 evening sessions and 3 schools per week, with the focus being mentoring and providing support in the aspect of mental health and general wellbeing.

Main Duties:
  • Supporting young people during youth clubs, social events & local school visits, particularly regarding their mental health, wellbeing and any issues they may be facing.
  • Working collaboratively with YMCA colleagues and external agencies to ensure alignment and integration of work to support young people on their journey.
  • Maintaining records to support the monitoring, assessment and evaluation of the service, including outcomes for young people.
  • Working towards and supporting the achievement of the agreed Key Performance Indicators and performance objectives and ensuring a high level of service is provided at all times.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Relevant HND/Degree or equivalent relevant experience (Youth Work, Mental Health, Wellbeing, Mentoring)
  • Experience of supporting young people from a variety of backgrounds, facing various life challenges
  • Experience mentoring young people
  • Knowledge & Understanding of the potential barriers that young people face
  • Experience of street-based outreach
  • Mental Health First Aid or wiling to obtain
  • Knowledge of health & safety practice and risk assessments within a relevant environment
  • Level 2 Safeguarding or willingness to obtain
  • Full driving licence and ability to travel between YMCA sites

Salary: £14097 FT equivelant £22027

Fixed-Term (12 Months), Part-time (24 hours per week)
