Senior Linux Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure - Max. GBP70k + Bonus & Shares - Egham, Surrey
Salary: Maximum GBP70,000 plus up to 15% bonus, shares and good benefits.
THE COMPANY AND SITUATION OVERVIEW:
A hugely successful and very fast-growing multi-billion dollar ITSM company requires an individual with strong Linux skills to help them architect, build and manage the global cloud infrastructure that runs their SaaS product.
This is a role for career Linux people, those who are Linux through-and-through, passionate advocates of Linux and very non-Microsoft! This team doesn't have any Windows stuff at all and have told me if you have any Microsoft certifications then you're probably not right for them, but if you have a Red Hat Certification (RHCA) then you're almost guaranteed an interview!
Consequently, the experience they are seeking is as follows:
A minimum of 5 years of commercial experience with Linux (RedHat and/or CentOS)
Strong experience with service troubleshooting, covering web Front End, Systems, Databases and Networks
Previous direct exposure to engineering and architecting fundamental Internet services (DNS, Mail, Apache/Tomcat) with a good understanding of the LAMP stack (or similar stack - it doesn't HAVE to be PHP)
Familiarity with relational databases: Any of MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB, Tungsten, Postgresql or similar
Scripting abilities in Perl or Python
Understanding of ITIL v3 framework, or any other ticketing system and how it applies to incident, problem and change
At least some experience of managed or hosted services; eg IAAS, PAAS, SAAS, etc.
Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics OR equivalent experience
Good communication skills and work well in a collaborative team environment
Please note the above are essential: You require all of the above to be eligible for this role.
This is not a reactive support job, this is all about proactive engineering, designing, building and architecting. In this role, you would be a key member of the Cloud Infrastructure Engineering team, responsible for architecting, building and managing the global cloud infrastructure that runs their SaaS product. This is an opportunity to be at the core of building a Cloud SaaS platform that will scale to millions of users. This team architects, builds and operates the server infrastructure that runs their SaaS platform at scale and with high availability, working closely with engineers and developers across the company.
Here you will work with and learn from some of the best in the industry, which will enable you to either move into a more senior role in the same team, or move off into another specialised area: They're very amenable to internal moves. The growth opportunities here are phenomenal and you can make your mark as regards the company direction and be a part of that success.
Why come here though? What's the real attraction?
Arguably, their bleeding edge technology: They acquire state-of-the-art equipment before it's even made public! You get to play with new technology first, often before anyone else on the planet! That appeals to good engineers: Being able to test new technology before it hits the market.
For example: They are a very big customer on the Fusion-io stack, known to be the fastest on the market when it comes to read and write times on SSD. They were on Fusion-io long before it came to market, giving them a very big advantage over other companies in the sector. They're also conducting heavy testing on NVMe at present. Come here and play with the latest toys!
