Working as part of a small team you will be responsible for processing a high volume, multi-sited, biweekly and monthly payroll for around 300 staff from start to finish, ensuring that all staff are paid accurately and on time each week. Additionally, you may be required, from time to time to assist with the Directors payroll.

The main roles and responsibilities for this position are:

• Ensure that Company Policies, Procedures and controls are adhered to at all times to protect the company from financial loss
• Ensure the completeness and accuracy of the payroll so that company employees receive the correct remuneration on a timely basis, in accordance with the company payroll timetables

You will be involved in the following processes:

• New starter, leaver, and all other adjustments to the Payrolls are properly controlled and processed on a timely basis using NetSuite Payroll system
• Print and input data from the weekly timesheets accurately and on time and resolve any queries arising
• Record sickness and calculate company sick pay entitlement and SSP
• Record and calculate holidays and holiday pay
• Ensure that all Payroll reconciliations, statutory returns, settlement calculations and statistical enquiries are completed accurately and within the relevant time limits
• Ensure compliance with all PAYE legislation within the UK (including Scotland and Wales)
• Production of Payroll run and distribution of output
• Upload Pension information to People's Pension
• Telephone liaison with Depots and Departments
• Create, maintain and update personnel files, absence forms etc.
• Deal with external agencies i.e. Inland Revenue, DSS, Benefits Agency, CSA, Peoples Pension and other third parties
• On an ad-hoc basis, complete manual payroll calculations
• Respond to and resolve employee payroll related issues both written and verbal and ensure that a professional and courteous approach is adopted at all times
• Keep up-to-date with any legislation changes that may affect pay or benefits
• Assist with producing reports for Directors and Managers as required
• Provide cover for the Payroll Supervisor duties as and when required
• Support and assist the HR Team on an ad-hoc basis with various tasks, i.e. admin duties, recruitment, taking minutes at meetings, field phone calls etc.
• Ensure all associated administration duties are carried out in line with company procedures
• Flexible approach to working hours
• Working with the team to cover periods of holiday and sickness
• General admin, filing etc.
• Strictly adhere to all Health and Safety procedures and ensure that the working environment is practical for both yourself and others
• And any other reasonable duties commensurate with the post, which may be allocated from time to time

The successful candidate should possess the following skills and experience:

• Previous experience of working within a fast paced office environment
• Proven track record of administrative roles
• Processing the payroll of at least 200+ employees
• Good working knowledge of current legislation, including; Tax, NI, SSP, SMP, SPP, Pensions etc.
• Minimum of 5 GCSE's, Grade C or above including English and Maths or equivalent
• Numerate and accurate
• Work to strict deadlines
• Conscientious
• Accurate with keen eye for detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Sound knowledge of MS Office suite (particularly Excel)
• Professional telephone manner
• Ability to explain difficult / sensitive issues in a calm and effective manner
• Process orientated with a focus on Financial Controls
• Self-motivated and able to work without Supervision
• Customer service focused
• Discrete and professional, able to hold information of a confidential nature
• Strong work ethic

Working hours are 24 hours per week, worked between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, Monday to Wednesday, with 1 hour unpaid break daily.
