The department

Our London Employment Team, led by partner Carl Richards, were winners of the Commercial Team of the Year Award at the British Legal Awards 2015, catching the eye of the judges for our work advising global investment company Marlin Equity Partners on its acquisition of data protection business Arcserve from New York software group CA Technologies across 28 non-US jurisdictions.

Part of a pan-European team, we work across sectors to advise employers on their most important asset - their people. Our expertise covers the full range of sensitive personnel issues including dismissal, protecting confidentiality, employment tribunals and team moves. We manage the legal, commercial and reputational risks associated with employment, occupational health and safety, and industrial relations issues.

Clients who benefit from King & Wood Mallesons' advice on labour and employment include Universal Music, whom we advised on the employment and pensions aspects of its acquisition of the Parlophone Record Group. We also advised Terra Firma on employment and pensions issues arising from its GBP276 million private equity acquisition of the UK's largest garden centre operator, The Garden Centre Group.

The opportunity

We are currently seeking a Managing Associate to join our Employment Team on a permanent basis. The individual will need to be a solid all-rounder, with particularly strong experience of corporate support and leading on a range of transactional work, though exposure to advisory and litigation would be highly beneficial. Experience of any of the following areas would be advantageous but is not essential: private equity sector, working with fund structures, partnerships/LLPs, pensions and/or immigration law. As well as conducting their fee earning duties, the successful candidate will take responsibility for mentoring and supervising more junior team members and will be a very visible and key member of this highly regarded team.

Education/ Experience

5 + years of post-qualification experience gained within a reputable UK private practice team

Excellent academics, i.e. minimum 2.1 from a university with a reputable law faculty, or equivalent via CPE

Technically very strong with a rigorous and intellectual approach to the law

Very strong drafting and writing skills

Client-focused with a high degree of commercial awareness and pragmatism

Self-confident with well-developed interpersonal skills

An ability to think laterally and creatively when providing solutions

Drive, initiative, enthusiasm and resourcefulness

Ability and desire to take responsibility and act in a fast paced environment

Flexibility and stamina to manage a demanding and often conflicting workload
