About the job
We're looking for an exceptional Research Director to join our growing Health Policy Research team. The Health Policy Research team's interests are wide-ranging and include health services research and evaluation, mental health and wellbeing, ageing, health inequalities, substance misuse and food policy. We are interested to hear from researchers with a wide range of methodological skills and substantive expertise. You may be an evaluation specialist, mixed methodologist or qualitative expert. Whatever your research identity, you will have a strong track record of successful income generation, whether it be through responding to ITTs, winning research grants, or proactively building new client relationships, together with the passion and ability to build and lead a portfolio of work within the team.

We are particularly keen to hear from people who are experienced evaluators in health services or related fields. We conduct evaluations right across the formative and summative spectrum utilising a diverse set of methodologies and approaches, and your evaluation expertise may be in one of a variety of flavours. You will be able to confidently design evaluations of complex programmes and policies for a wide range of clients within both large and small budget envelopes.

Knowledge of the health sector and current policy landscape is a distinct advantage, but your methodological, income generating, and client handling skills may have been gained in related fields.
As a senior member of the team and the wider organisation, you will work closely with the Head of Health Policy Research to support them in making strategic decisions about the direction of the team's work; expanding and capturing new income generating opportunities; and providing leadership, development, and mentorship to junior colleagues.

You will be a strong communicator, comfortable talking to research participants and clients alike, and producing high quality and high impact research products. The ability to lead and work on more than one project concurrently, work well under pressure and manage deadlines effectively in a dynamic and fast paced environment is essential. You will work alongside and be supported by knowledgeable colleagues across your projects, whether in the Health Policy team or across the wider Policy Research Centre or Survey Research Centre, and you will share with them a passion for social research and its potential to impact on policy and society.

Applications to work part-time will be considered.
