This is an opportunity to join a long established company with more than 20 years experience in the Design, Supply & Installation of Precast Concrete Flooring Systems and Staircases. They are an ambitious company, looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join their busy team.
The role provides commercial and contractual expertise, assisting with cost controls whilst maximising value on multiple construction projects relating to Precast Concrete in the building industry.
Summary
This role provides commercial and contractual expertise, assisting with cost controls whilst maximising value on multiple construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and negotiate contract documents including advising management on risk, including both Contractors and suppliers
- Deal with issues on site and within the office such as delays on site, changes to the contract etc that require rapid, pro-active solutions
- Liaise internally and externally to ensure all costs are controlled
- Identify and respond to variations
- All company valuations/applications and Final Accounts and signing off of supplier invoices
- Constantly look at ways to maximise profitability
- Monitor job progress from tender through to design and on site activities and final account.
- Dispute resolution at all levels including knowledge of legal proceedings
- Assess estimates for accuracy, risk and profitability
- Attend Pre-let meetings
- Complete Collateral Warranties
Required Experience
The successful candidate will have a relevant qualification (Degree or HNC) in Quantity Surveying or equivalent, with at least 2 years experience of the following:
- An understanding of construction methods and materials, preferably with experience in precast concrete elements
- Costing works packages including materials, time and labour costs
- Good understanding of JCT Design and Build Sub Contracts
- Working with estimating department to review and negotiate estimates
- Experience with forms of contract including JCT, NEC and Contractor bespoke contracts
- Monitoring progress of contracts to ensure costs are in line with forecasts and improving profitability
- Providing financial reports
- Advising management on contractual matters and risks
- Dispute resolution
- Submitting valuations and final accounts
- Minimising costs and risk and maximising profit, whilst maintaining positive working relationships and achieving the required standards and quality
Skills & Behaviours
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. You must be able to communicate effectively with Sub-contractors, Contractors, Designers, Engineers, Architects and colleagues
- Proven negotiating skills
- Computer literate with experience in all Microsoft Packages and Outlook
- Sage/Eque2 Construct and Autocad experience is preferential but not essential
- Good numerical skills
- Organised and methodical. With the ability to use own initiative to solve problems and prioritise work load
- Self-motivated and also a Team Player
