Council Tax Assistant

Temporary for up to 12 months

Your role will be to assist the team leader in administering Council Tax billing and collection.


You will work as part of a team and be involved in updating all aspects of Customer’s Council Tax accounts including awarding discounts and exemptions. You will also make payment arrangements with customers and monitor these arrangements, taking appropriate recovery action when necessary.


You will answer customer enquires via telephone, email, written correspondence and also assist customers at the Council’s service centre.


You will liaise with various Council sections and departments, including Council Tax Benefits and Money Advice. You will also liaise with outside agencies, including the Council’s appointed Sheriff Officers.


You should have a minimum of 3 Standard Grades (1 to be English) or equivalent. A high standard of customer care skills are required. Organisational, keyboard and communication skills are essential.


Previous experience in the Council Tax administration is and experience of electronic document management systems would be an advantage.


The ability to be flexible and work as part of a team is essential.



The post will be subject to a Basic Disclosure check.
