FINTEC recruit is looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor for our client based in Portsmouth. This is a permanent position working within the public sector with a salary of up to £45k, depending on experience. Reporting to the Commercial Manager you will provide professional quantity surveying and commercial acumen to the team and assist with managing the Service Provider and their Sub-Contractor, to provide best financial outcomes.

Role and Responsibilities:

As a Quantity Surveyor your responsibilities will include the following:-

  • Review and negotiate to regularly update rates

  • Be responsible for accurately taking off quantities, preparing estimates and specifications to enable the precise quotations

  • Assist Engineers with the measurement of construction work on site and provide reasoned recommendations for interim and final account payments

  • Prepare estimates

  • Agree change event figures when capital improvement work has been completed

  • Update and maintain database of projects, change events and adoptions


The successful candidate for the Quantity Surveyor role will have:-

  • A degree or diploma in Quantity surveying

  • A Qualification in RICS or ICES

  • Experience of taking a lead role on civil engineering highway maintenance projects

  • Excellent contract financial management skills

  • A good understanding of all stages of civil engineering design and construction including relevant acts/legislation

  • Substantial knowledge & understanding of civil engineering contracts, particularly ICE 6th and 7th Edition and the NEC 3 suite of contracts

  • Thorough understanding of Methods of Measurement particularly in relation to the MMHW

  • The ability to deliver project responsibilities with minimal supervision

  • An ability to work well as part of a team and also on your own initiative

  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages including Excel and Word

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Good analytical and problem solving skills

  • An ability to organize and prioritize assigned tasks to meet the set objectives

  • The self-motivation to keep up to date with current legislation and to undertake career development
