An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, technically strong High Performance Compute (HPC) professional. The Head of Research Computing Services will drive the management and ongoing development of our mission critical HPC services to our world leading academic research community. University College London has over 40,000 students and staff and is one of the world's leading research intensive universities. This mission critical role will form part of the wider Research IT services leadership team. The successful candidate will have end to end ownership for services and architecture plus the strategic evolution of our High Performance Computing technology roadmap with the aim of making us the leading research computing facility in the UK University sector. The Role: - Define, develop and deliver the organisation's HPC strategy and architectural roadmap. Take a hands-on lead role in the delivery of all HPC supporting infrastructure, projects and operations in what is a complex, high-demand, and data intensive environment. - As an involved senior manager and a key member of the Research IT leadership team, the Head of Research Computing will engage with an extremely diverse, intelligent and demanding research stakeholder community plus contribute to the success of the wider organisational strategy. - With full responsibility for our flagship 10,000 core 'Top500' HPC platform you will lead a technically strong team of resource helping them to continually improve delivery of our resilient mission critical HPC services. - Beyond UCL, you will engage strongly with national initiatives spanning the biomedical and physical sciences/engineering domains, and lead delivery of the new UCL- hosted national facility in Materials Modelling. The Person: - A technically strong, progressive HPC leader with a customer driven style and a structured approach to operational delivery. Deep HPC experience, within a data intensive, service driven environment is key to success. - As a confident and mature people leader, you will be able to inspire an already high performing group to become the leading HPC facility in Higher Education in the UK. - A rigorous intellect, with a proven HPC technical pedigree (gained either in academia or industry) allied with gravitas and EQ will enable you to engage with research stakeholders of all levels and technical capability within UCL and in the wider research community.
