Job Role: Workshop Fitter

Location: Buckfastleigh, Devon

Salary: Dependent on Experience

Position: Full Time, Permanent

The company runs one of Devon's and the West Country's best loved tourist attractions: the longest established steam railway in the south west. Their engineering business provides a wide range of specialist railway engineering services for the heritage railway sector, main line train operating companies and locomotive operators, including retyring services, locomotive repairs, boiler work, manufacture and fitting of replacement parts and overhauls.

They now have a vacancy for a skilled mechanical engineer with potential to progress into a management role and with experience of working in a heavy engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities:

A significant amount of the workload of the workshop is fitting new steel tyres to locomotive wheels. Experience of this type of work is desirable but training can be provided for those with the drive to succeed and the heavy engineering background.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a range of skills including machining, profiling and boring on conventional machine centres, along with general bench work and fitting skills.
