Residential Waking Night Staff

The post is located within the College's Residential Support Services. The main responsibility of the post is to act as first point of contact for students and members of the public at night and to assist with maintaining the security of College premises and ensuring student safety, in conjunction with the Campus Supervisors.

The post holder will be expected to ensure the safety and well-being of students at night, and participate in planning effective routines, monitoring health and welfare by using systems and monitors. To do this some duties will include, act as first point of contact for staff and students in all houses; administering medication in line with training/ procedures and maintaining records; and supporting with personal care needs for the students.

The successful candidate should respect the physical, emotional and social needs of students and work actively to promote an equal opportunities ethos. You should have, in particular, a well developed awareness of a broad range of disabilities and able to demonstrate good interpersonal skills with students, staff and external contacts. You will be well organised, reliable and work to high professional standards.

This post is for up to 38 hours per week for 39 weeks per year, shifts typically start at 11 pm and finish at 9 am.

Our client is a national residential College for the assessment, rehabilitation, vocational education and training of students with visual impairment and other disabilities. Its primary aim is to develop the skills of all students to the full, enabling them to live and work as independently as possible in society.

Students at the college are aged from 16+. Most have some degree of visual impairment; many have additional disabilities or learning difficulties. Their student community is recruited nationally and reflects the multi-cultural nature of their society.
