To maintain the general cleanliness of the resident’s bedding, linen and personal clothing in a way that respects their dignity.
To help maintain in the home the atmosphere and practice of care based on the Values of WEFHS Ltd deriving from a concern for the individual and mutual respect between residents and staff.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Operate all laundry equipment in accordance with guidance and training offered and the operation manual supplied by the manufacturer.
Sort and wash all items carefully, paying particular attention to washing instructions.
Segregate and wash infected (eg MRSA) items and wash separately. Keep soiled and clean items apart.
Undertake any necessary ironing and sewing.
Sort clean laundry for distribution to linen cupboard and / or residents’ rooms. Where articles of clothing cannot be identified, to bring this to the attention of the appropriate member of staff.
Mend, or leave aside for mending, any damaged articles and bring this to the attention of the key-worker.
Leave ready for attention any article requiring dry cleaning. To record the item sent and received back, checking for faults and reporting the same to the appropriate member of staff.
Ensure that all laundry equipment is maintained in a clean condition. Clean tumble dryer filter after each use and check that the filter is not damaged. Report to a senior member of staff immediately any defects in machinery or the work area.
Be responsible for tidiness in the laundry.
Be aware of manual handling hazards, and comply with the requirements of the manual handling assessments.
Be aware of the dangers of cross-infection, maintain good levels of personal hygiene and wear any personal protective equipment supplied by the Home.
Be responsible for keeping a supply of laundry materials in the laundry store cupboard and complying with COSHH regulations.
Carry out general housekeeping duties as and when required.
Respect resident’s rights to privacy, dignity and choice.
Assist with the induction of new staff as in accordance with the Induction Policy.
Attend and participate in staff meetings.
Attend training and development sessions as appropriate including compulsory Health & Safety Training as designated for the role. This may involve travelling to other locations.
Attend and participate in regular supervision and appraisal.
Be aware of and adhere to the organisation’s Health and Safety Policy and the requirements of the Food Safety Manual.
Be aware of and adhere to the policies as contained in the Employment Policies and Procedures Manual.
This is not a complete description of the duties and responsibilities of the post of Laundry Assistant, and the post holder is expected to carry out other reasonable duties as required by the Line Manager.
