Pre-assessment Nurse

As a Staff Nurse in the Pre-Operative Assessment unit, your responsibilities will include:

• Assessing patients' health and well-being across a complex and changing caseload
• Conducting electronic pre-operative assessments
• Identifying and escalating patients of concern to senior nursing staff
• Undertaking full patient health assessments and triaging their pre-operative needs
• Assisting in the delivery of care to meet individual health and wellbeing needs
• Providing and receiving complex, sensitive, or contentious information
• Developing your own knowledge and skills as well as those of others
• Promoting best practices in health, safety, and security
• Assisting in maintaining and developing services

The ideal candidate for the Pre-Assessment Nurse role should have:

• Active and valid NMC pin
• Experience working in teams with minimal supervision
• Experience in an acute environment
• Competence across a range of skills, supported by professional and clinical knowledge
• Advanced IT skills for electronic pre-operative assessment systems
• Desirable skills in phlebotomy, venepuncture, and ECG (or willingness to be trained)
• Outstanding communication skills
• A Pre-Operative Assessment Association course is desirable (or willingness to undertake within 12 months of employment)
