Payroll Assistant (6 months contract)

The Payroll Assistant will be responsible for supporting the Payroll Department in processing payroll accurately and on time. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality. The Payroll Assistant will collaborate with various departments to ensure all payroll-related tasks are completed efficiently.

Payroll Assistant's Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and processing of bi-weekly/monthly payroll for all employees.
  • Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data.
  • Update payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job title and department/division transfers.
  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports as required.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analysing information.
  • Provide payroll information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Prepare and submit reports with payroll information to the management team.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Assist with payroll audits and other compliance-related activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Payroll Assistant's Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Payroll Assistant, Payroll Clerk, or similar role.
  • Familiarity with payroll software (e.g., SAGE 50 or similar).
  • Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations affecting payroll.

Payroll Assistant's Hours of work and Benefits

  • Mon to Fri 8AM to 4PM
  • 25k (DOE)
  • 28 days holidays (pro rota)
