Independent Person

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Authority

Are you a person of integrity, experienced in handling sensitive information, and dedicated to serving your community? If so, we invite you to become an Independent Person of the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority! We are seeking individuals like you to play a crucial role in dealing with Member and Relevant Officer complaints, ensuring transparency and fairness in our respected organisation.

Please note that this position is voluntary, with remuneration available.

We are looking for a volunteer Independent Person to assist the Authority in maintaining high standards of conduct by assisting with the handling of any complaints against Elected Members and Relevant Officers when carrying out their duties. The Independent Person may be consulted by the Monitoring Officer when they are considering complaints made against Fire Authority Members and will be asked by the Monitoring Officer to be part of an Independent Panel for complaints made against Relevant Officers. Meetings will only be called if there is a complaint made and so there will be no requirement to attend meetings regularly.

The term of office will be four years from the date of appointment, with an option to extend available.

We are looking for candidates who:

1) demonstrate a strong commitment to ethical behaviour and uphold high standards of personal integrity.
2) are able to remain impartial and fair in their approach to all matters concerning the Fire Authority.
3) are able to maintain strict confidentiality, never disclosing sensitive information.
4) possess strong analytical skills and sound judgement when considering complex situations.
5) have direct experience of implementing and upholding standards and/or dealing with complaints and customer care issues.

If you need to travel to carry out the role, travelling and subsistence allowances will be paid in respect of attendance at meetings. Training for the role will also be provided.

If you or a close friend or relative are or have been a Member, co-opted Member or an officer of MFRA you are not eligible to apply for this position. Individuals with ongoing disputes or complaints with MFRA must disclose this as part of their application.

If you are a dedicated individual with a passion for fairness, integrity and community service, we invite you to apply for the role of Independent Person.
