IRIS are expanding their Data Warehouse (DW) and Business Intelligence (BI) team to support a range of growth initiatives including centralised reporting, machine learning, faster onboarding of acquisitions data and the ability to serve ad-hoc data requests to all areas of the business.

The role will be to support the BAU activities of the team which includes the ingestion of multiple data sources to the main DW and the preparation of datasets for reporting requests. Migration of legacy ETL packages to newer standards and support the on-going development of our ML offerings. Primary types of data will be financial, CRM, telephony & support desk, with others as the need arises. Primary languages/technologies will be Microsoft SQL & Python.

Technical skills revolve around ETL of data using MS SQL (2016 onwards), SSIS, C#.Net & Python. Candidates must have excellent general IT & Excel skills and commercial experience of MS SQL & Python.

The work is diverse, given that every report is different, that every acquisition uses different source systems with different processes & terminologies. Resulting in a need to be creative, inventive and reactive to how different data sources are managed and prepared etc (although conforming to development standards already in place within the Enterprise Data Warehouse environment).

The role will require some learning of skills on the fly, learning of business logics & processes, then turning that into SQL/Python code. A can-do, inquisitive and problem solving mindset is essential for this role.

Additional duties include general support of the DW team activities as a whole, which may include some data analysis, data administration etc. The team works as a whole unit each bringing something to the team and each supporting the other when the needs arise.

There will be plenty of opportunity to develop skills in Data Warehousing, BI Reporting, Azure, MS SQL Databases & ML/modelling.

Experience of working in a Microsoft stack essential, experience of Alteryx would be advantageous but not essential. Functional understanding of binary classification models to support no-code ad-hoc model development would be advantageous.

Main Responsibilities

• Migrate legacy ETL packages from Alteryx to MS SQL/Python
  • Build & deploy to in house environment using standard libraries
• Support the ongoing ingestion of data into the Data Warehouse (MS SQL)
  • T-SQL, SSIS, C#.Net, Python
• Support development of new projects
  • T-SQL, SSIS, C#.Net, Python
• Support team activities involving ad-hoc data analysis
• Support preparation of datasets for reporting
• Support on-going ML projects/modelling
  • Refine/update existing code
  • Refresh existing models
  • Develop new models to given spec

Qualifications

• Min. 5 GCSE’s at C/grade 5 or above (must include Maths & English).
• A-Level’s in Science/Maths / Statistics / Computing (other subjects considered).
• Higher education in Computing based subject would be advantageous.
• Industry specific qualifications from Microsoft/AWS would be advantageous.
• Other comparable qualifications/experience may also be considered. 

Experience

• High proficiency in MS Office 365 (including Excel).
• Commercial experience using Python for ETL activities
• Commercial experience using MS SQL (T-SQL)
• Commercial experience using Python for ML/modelling
