Site Reliability Engineer
Edinburgh -Remote

Summary
We are looking for an experienced Infrastructure as Code engineer with a strong Unix background is required to assist one of our Public Sector clients in the design and build of a new datacentre platform and improve the existing setup. This is a 6 month initial contract that falls outside IR35 and is remote.
Location
Mainly remote working for the foreseeable future, except where access to physical hardware is required, which will be on-site in Edinburgh when needed.
Main outcomes & objectives
- Maintain and develop Arista network automation using Ansible/Python
- Support and deploy Ansible Tower/Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform
- Assist with development of RHEL8 automated build process
- Support and enhance existing python codebase
- Support and develop Ansible playbooks for network based services Additional services
- Provide expert guidance on setup and support for current platform
- Support disaster recovery testing activities
- Streamline existing Unix administration tasks using Ansible
- Red Hat Satellite management
- Develop and maintain python-based site monitoring for Solaris, NetApp, Oracle & NSX using REST APIs, InfluxDB, Grafana & Nagios
- Implement and support Load Balancer technologies such as HAProxy, DNSDist and keepalived
Essential skills & experience Significant and demonstrable commercial experience of the following:
- Programming/Scripting skills
- Bash
- Python
- Ansible, including Ansible Tower deployment and administration
- Docker/Podman container and image management
- Hashicorp Vault administration inclusive of AppRole
- Load Balancer technologies, eg HAProxy and keepalived
- Grafana, Nagios and InfluxDB
- Agile working practices, including Kanban/Scrum, retrospectives, VFQ.
- Customer focused, through proactive engagement
- Risk aware, focused on risk reduction and mitigation
- Effective team working and technical decision making
- Experience in delivering infrastructure projects
- Creativity - taking new approaches to tackle problems; embracing innovation and sharing knowledge with a range of stakeholders
- Strong documentation skills
- DevOps practices, including automation of infrastructure
Desirable skills & experience
- General security design and architecture knowledge
- Infrastructure as Code development experience
- Basic understanding of Networking practices
