I am currently working with a secondary school who are looking for an HLTA or an experience teaching assistant willing to take their qualifications. You will be working with students with ASD and ADHD starting in September.

Key Responsibilities

  • Withdraw students from lesson and continue their education up to GCSE level on a one to one basis. Returning the student to lessons when appropriate to do so.
  • Assess the needs of students and use detailed knowledge and specialist skill to support students learning.
  • Establish productive working relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
  • Plan and deliver specific intervention.
  • Develop and implement personalised learning plans where required
  • Provide feedback to students in relation to progress, achievement, behaviour etc.
  • Within an agreed system of supervision and within a pre-determined lesson framework, plan and teach assigned groups.
  • Motivate and progress students learning by using clearly structured, interesting teaching and learning activities.
  • Organise and manage appropriate learning environment and resources.
  • Monitor and evaluate student responses to learning activities through a range of assessment and monitoring strategies against pre-determined learning objectives.
  • Administer and assess/mark tests and invigilate exams/tests.
  • Deliver learning activities to students within agreed system of supervision, adjusting activities according to student responses/needs.
  • Deliver local and national learning strategies e.g. literacy, numeracy and make effective use of opportunities provided by other learning activities to support the development of students skills.
  • Use ICT effectively to support learning activities and develop students competence and independence in its use.
  • Advise on appropriate deployment and use of specialist aid/resources/equipment.
  • Determine the need for, prepare and use specialist equipment, plans and resources to support students

You will:

  • Provide evidence of fulfilling the Higher Level Teaching Assistant standards and or ability and potential to fulfil them within the first 6 months of the role.
  • Hold a degree
  • Relevant qualifications that help demonstrate evidence towards the above
  • Evidence of specialism in specific curriculum areas or areas of particular learning difficulty.
  • Understanding of principles of child development and learning processes and in particular, barriers to learning
  • Experience of working with children with SEN and in particular ASD & ADHD
  • Ability to plan effective actions for students at risk of underachieving
  • Shows a personal commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and rights of young people.
  • Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people
  • Ability to carry out and report systematic observations of students knowledge, understanding and skills
  • Ability to assist in the recording of lessons and assessment as required by the teacher
  • Ability to offer feedback to students to reinforce self-esteem
  • Use of SIMS or equivalent
  • Excellent time-management and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
