A successful and fast growing organisation who have doubled in size in the last 5 years are looking for a IT Manager

They are an independent family owned local business based in St Albans. They offer quality products and a traditional service as well as a multi-channel offering and they supply into 500 schools across the UK. This is an exciting time to join them as they continue to grow and develop.

Due to continued growth and success of the business, a new role has been created to manage the growing desktop support team and provide day to day management support to the Head of IT. The role is hands on and varied, covering a spectrum of different skills from hardware and networking to desktop application and online resources. The ideal candiate will be a self starter, keen to take responsibility and able to actively assist in the continued growth of the company.

The IT Support Manager takes responsibility for the day to day system availability of all IT systems across the group of companies which comprises 30 retail branches, 4 distribution warehouses and multiple website brands. The role will also support the Head of IT in implementing plans and policies to meet the changing demands of the business.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the Desktop support analyst(s), scheduling work and over seeing deliverables, assisting and covering 1st/2nd level support when required.

Providing a point of escalation of incidents as appropriate

Liase with third party suppliers to ensure quality of service and manage issue resolution

Oversee licencing to ensure the business is never under or over licenced for any particular product, especially subscription services

Maintain adequate business continuity posture covering network security and backup procedures

Maintenance of various web sites ensuring versions of software and plug ins are up to date

Propose solutions to business challenges where required and work with the Head of IT to implement any necessary enhancements to software and systems

Ensure the department documentation is maintained and that equipment is recorded, protected and fit for purpose

What the employer is looking for:

4 years previous experience in 1st,2nd or 3rd line support roles, ideally in a retail environment

Previous supervisory experience essential

Strong communication skills, able to describe issues in a non technical way to other staff members and senior management

Good knowledge of Windows server, Office365 and related services

Experience of various web frameworks such as Wordpress, shopify, Magento etc

Hands on experience of hardware, patch panels, switches and routers

Knowledge of networking, telephony,printing and cloud technologies such as AWS and Azure

Full clean UK driving license

DBS Security Check required
