We are looking for gardeners to join our friendly and welcoming team here at Hft. This is your chance to make a real difference to people's lives.
We are one of the largest learning disability charities in the UK, supporting over 2,500 people through our friendly, supportive, creative and diverse teams.
What will you be doing?
We are looking for volunteers to support a group of adults with learning disabilities to look after their garden at one of our services in Bristol. The individuals who live at this location enjoy growing a range of salads, vegetables and herbs and enjoy working alongside volunteers to sow and nurture the plants and maintain the site. Following a period of inactivity due to lockdown, the adults are excited about getting things up and running again as it is a project that is really fulfilling and rewarding.
Key Tasks:
Discussing with the adults what they would like to grow
Weeding, preparing the soil for sowing and keeping the site weed free
Helping to sell surplus produce to buy seeds and compost for the following season
Suggesting new ideas and involving the adults in the long term planning and development of the site.
What are we looking for in you?
An interest in supporting adults with a learning disability
A warm and friendly personality, patience and understanding
Compassion and someone who shares our values
Good general gardening knowledge and the ability to advise others
What matters most is a positive attitude to life and a desire to support people to live their life with as much independence, choice, dignity and control as possible. You will need to have good listening skills and a practical, caring approach
