Senior Customs Advisor
Market Drayton - hybrid working
12-Month Fixed Term Contract

40 hours per week
We are recruiting on behalf of our well-established production client in the Market Drayton area, we have a position available for an experience Export Customs Advisor to join their IMEX team and guide on the exportation of goods to the EU. This is a 12-month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave, however our client is renowned for holding onto good people and will do their upmost to offer a perm contract at the end of the 12 months if you have made a positive impression on the business. Our client offers flexible hybrid working, along with other good benefits.
The Senior Customs Advisor will be responsible for:
Provide a technical advice and support service to the businesses in respect of all UK and Irish Customs matters including Origin decisions, Classification of goods and general import/export queries
Prepare Customs advice /submissions and disclosures to HMRC for senior review
Act as the escalation point of contact for queries from Customs teams across the business and know when to escalate to colleagues
Monitor deferment account levels and reconcile deferment account on a monthly basis for the business
Manage internal auditing within the team to verify accuracy of entries
Ensure all approvals / authorisations / registration numbers etc are in place and remain valid
Keep abreast of changes to relevant Customs legislation & HMRC guidance, make recommendations to the Head of Tax
Maintain and establish well documented process notes and audit procedures for business processes
Work with the Import and Export Team Leaders to ensure all compliance obligations are being met, provide cover to the Team Leaders on an ad hoc basis
Take a leading role in preparing for HMRC enquiries and support the Head of Tax with any information requests / meetings
Provide support and training to other team members and assist with their development
Take a leading role in any Customs Projects and support the business to ensure compliance and achieve the most efficient Customs position
Assess any business changes and the impact to Customs requirements, mitigating risks and identifying opportunities
Understand technical guidance and be able to clearly explain and communicate information internally and externally at all levels, including Senior Leaders
Assist the Head of Tax to develop internal processes for Customs Compliance across the UK business identifying risks and seeking solutions to mitigate them
Act as Deputy to the Head of Tax on Customs matters as required
Liaise with and support Group colleagues with any Group Projects involving UK or Irish Customs
Skills and Experience required:
Knowledge of UK and EU customs rules and procedures
Ideally hold a recognised customs qualification
Ability to develop training plans and provide training to team members
Strong team player with excellent communication
Problem-solving
This role would suit a candidate with previous experience as a Trade Compliance Manager / Trade Compliance Advisor / Compliance Manager / Compliance Advisor / IMEX Advisor / Export Manager / Export Advisor
