Children's Services Manager, West Sussex and Surrey

This is an exciting opportunity to join Barnardo's Sussex and Surrey Regional Management Group as a Children's Services Manager for three thriving local Children's services.

This is a rare part-time position, working the equivalent of 3 days per week. How these hours are split is able to be negotiated, as Barnardo's are committed to supporting flexible working arrangements where possible. If new work is acquired in the locality as funding opportunities are released, then there may be the possibility of increasing hours against new contracts.

This is a fixed-term role until 30.06.23, with the potential for extension after this point.

Job Purpose:

To make a real difference in the lives of Children, Young People and Families by:

Leading and managing a Service(s) to ensure a positive impact on children, young people and families through the effective and efficient delivery of Children's Service activities and practices
To influence and challenge actual and potential Commissioners, partners in practice, and other stakeholders, in order to maintain and develop Barnardo's reputation as an advocate for Children, Young People and Families.

CSM Key Responsibilities:

1. Leads and manages all staff and workers in order to build and maintain a capable and motivated team.

2. Completes all required people management procedures and routines for all staff in compliance with Barnardo's Policies and procedures.

3. Undertakes specific duties, services and activities where stipulated in the Service Contract or otherwise defined and agreed with the commissioner.

4. Proactively leads and manages Contract provision, working closely with internal and external stakeholders as necessary, to ensure that progress on delivery and specified targets is monitored and reported regularly, and that any issues are addressed and resolved to the satisfaction of stakeholders.

5. Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Children's Services for the Locality to maintain and develop relationships with local commissioning bodies, and key stakeholders, in order to increase the Services reach and scope and to influence best practice in the field.

6. Handles any representation or Complaints, from any source, in a fully compliant and professional manner to ensure that concerns are addressed, resolved and documented in line with relevant Children's Services Policies.

7. Leads and influences on Safeguarding to ensure an active engagement is maintained in the interests of the child at all levels in the Service(s) and that all issues are dealt with comprehensively and compliantly to Barnardo's policy and procedures; involving all relevant external agencies and authorities as necessary.

8. Contributes as required to external meetings to review Contract outcomes in order to demonstrate, and promote, Barnardo's reputation as a provider of Children's Services.

9. Proactively develops and maintains influential working relationships with key stakeholders such as commissioning teams and other agencies in order to be a respected advocate on Children's issues and to enhance Barnardo's reputation in the Locality.

Candidates will need to demonstrate and evidence the following:-

Supervision qualification. (D) (willing to work towards if not)

Management training. (D) (willing to work towards if not)

Applicant needs to evidence knowledge of key issues in relation to childhood trauma and sound understanding of a trauma-informed approaching to working (E)

Applicant needs to have sound knowledge of and experience in matters of child protection and safeguarding.(E)

Experience of planning, evaluating and undertaking individual and/or group work interventions. (E)

Experience in leading / managing people within a similar setting (E)

Ability to liaise and work constructively with partner agencies, commissioners and other stakeholders.(E)

Experience of the statutory sector. (D)

Willingness to participate in ongoing, continuous professional development.(E)

Experience of working with vulnerable children, young people and their families (E)

Ability to work on own initiatives, work to tight deadlines and specific targets. (E)

Experience in providing feedback to staff and building continuous improvement of practice through standards the service has in place. (E)

Ability to manage situations/people whereby performance is not to the required standard, to achieve improvements. (E)

Able to demonstrate capability in understanding and managing finances and budgets. (E)

Capability of compiling meaningful management reports and information on performance and impact for a wide variety of audiences. (E)

Experience in gathering and interpreting data to consider in the evaluation of service performance. (E)

Ability to lead a team by example through own behaviours and interactions, setting high standards and working to always motivate staff. (E)

Someone who lives within Sussex and Surrey and is familiar with the Geography of the area (D)

Car driver with the ability to travel across Sussex and Surrey as required. Regular face to face contact with teams is expected. (E)
