Job Purpose:

To inspect and service vehicles and plant in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and Hampshire Transport Management policies and procedures, to ensure they are safe and running efficiently. To diagnose and repair faults and as required, to participate in the County Council's emergency and winter maintenance operations.

Role Responsibilities:

Vehicle inspection and maintenance

  • Inspect and undertake routine maintenance of all vehicles and plant in accordance with the manufacturer's recommended service intervals and Hampshire Transport Management's (and customer's) safety inspection regimes.
  • Diagnose and repair faults either found during routine inspections or reported by users in a cost-effective manner.
  • Inspect and prepare vehicles for annual MOT / Plating and Testing inspection.

Communication

  • Work with vehicle and plant users to identify and resolve defects.
  • Be aware of priority vehicles, work with other members of the workshop team to ensure these vehicles are repaired in the correct time frame.
  • Complete all documentation required in a timely and accurate manner.
  • To act in a way which enhances the reputation of Hampshire Transport Management.

Emergency standby and winter maintenance

  • Be available for standby.
  • Attend winter maintenance (road salting) activities, during the night and ensure all dedicated winter maintenance vehicles are fully functional.
  • Participate in all winter emergency procedures, including, where necessary, working additional shifts in order to keep emergency vehicles operating.

Role Requirements:

  • Minimum qualification of City and Guilds AVCE, NVQ level 3 or minimum of 3 years experience in similar role.
  • Full category B (car) driving Licence essential.
  • HGV class C & E Licence and D1 desirable.
  • Flexible and willing to work in other workshops when situation demands.
  • Available for winter maintenance/emergency standby rota.
  • Able to deal with customers to identify defects / faults.
  • Willing and able to train new staff, including apprentices.
  • Multi-skilled, e.g., electrical, mechanical, hydraulics and welding.
  • Must have own tool kit sufficient to carry out repairs and maintenance on our vehicle and plant fleet.
