Foundry Apprentice required for a manufacturer and supplier of metal products based in Braintree. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will have an interest in manufacturing or engineering. The qualification is suitable for those wishing to pursue or advance a technical career in the metal casting, foundry and patternmaking industry. Typical career pathways include Foundry Technician and Patternmaker. This programme has been designed to give you the technical and practical education you will need to complete and progress in the Cast Metals, Foundry and Patternmaking industry. You will develop an understanding of casting, foundry and patternmaking processes as well as the underlying principles.

Moulding and Core Making
Pattern Making
Methods Development
Foundry Material and Process Control
Foundry Production - fettling, shotblasting, machining, labouring etc.
Melting and Metal Transfer Process
Post Casting
Inspection and Quality Control
Fettling of parts to required finished tolerances as provided drawings using various tools including angle grinders, upright linishers, hand operated air linishers, hand files, chisels etc.
Cutting off risers, runners and excess material using angle grinders, band saws and return excess metals to melting team.
Operating cranes to move heavy parts.
Using various tools and machines in various departments specific to the job required.
Work in a safe and efficient manner.
Willing to travel and stay away from home for training 1 week per month.Foundry Apprentice Position Requirements
An interest in production engineering is desired.
No experience is required but advantageous.
Ideally have minimum 5 GCSE's including Maths & English and Science (C/4 or above) are typically required however all interested candidates will be considered as a positive attitude to learning is the most important attribute.
Foundry Apprentice Position Remuneration
Remuneration: GBP6.22 - 8.08/hr, dependant on qualifications and experience, with review in 13 weeks and next formal review in 12 months. You will also receive an Attendance and Production related bonus, calculated and paid every 4 weeks (not guaranteed). GBP1 per hour worked for standard hours only (x39 hours = GBP39.00 per week).
Hourly rate including bonus GBP7.22 - 9.08 /hour.
Weekday and Saturday overtime - x1.5
Weekend Sunday overtime - x2
Mon - Thurs 7.00am - 3.30pm
Fri 7.00am - 2.30pm
20-minute break 9.55am - 10.15am (paid)
30-minute break 12.30pm - 1.00pm (unpaid)
