We are seeking candidates with OOTW experience for this exciting opportunity to work onshore as a Maritime Navigational Advisor for a world leading centre for hydrography who provide marine geospatial data to inform maritime decisions. The organisation work with a wide range of data suppliers and partners to support maritime navigation, safety, security and marine development around the UK and worldwide.

Maritime Navigational Advisor - Candidate Requirements

Officer of the Watch CoC (Unlimited) or Navy Equivalent

ECDIS certificate

A minimum of 12 months sea time as a sole or senior watchkeeper

Experience within the last 5 years is preferred however other experience within the maritime sector may be considered in lieu of recent sea time, such as editing Sailing Directions at a recognised authority

An ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of passage planning techniques including the use of nautical publications and charts

Experience in practical navigation, including coastal navigation and port approach, as a senior/sole watchkeeper

Recent practical use of ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display & Information System) or equivalent systems

You must be a UK resident

Maritime Navigational Advisor - Role Overview

The role is home based or remote working

Flexible working hours including up to two days per month flexi leave

Part-time working is available but full time is preferred

You would be expected to attend Head office in the South-West for at least the first couple of weeks for initial training after which it would as and when required currently once or twice a month

The purpose of the Maritime Navigational Advisor is to assess new data to maintain Sailing Directions Volumes, providing essential information to support port entry and coastal navigation for all classes of ships at sea

Quality is paramount and the role is to ensure the volumes of Sailing Directions (SDs) are safe, accurate, clear to users, whilst remaining comprehensive, and up-to-date including Section IV Notice to Mariners supporting the maritime customer

Providing navigational and maritime input for existing and emerging products and services, often acting as the "voice of the customer" due to your Maritime expertise

Assess new information for its impact on Sailing Directions (SDs) and maintain in steady state maintenance

Recommend Notice to Mariner action for SDs and thematic products

Collaborate with others to share knowledge providing the mariners perspective on New Charts, New Editions and new chart schemes at specification stages

Continually develop own skills and provide clear coaching and mentoring for the development of the team

Use your expertise to play an active role in development and implementation of new processes and working practices and review and update process documentation
