Acorn is proud to be partnering with the NHS with excellent opportunities across the UK. We are currently looking for a Service Manager (Breast Screening Unit) to be based in Southend.

It is temporary, ongoing post to cover maternity leave.

Full time Monday-Friday 8am- 4.30pm

Band 8A
Pay Rate: GBP21.67 - GBP27.22 per hour (depending on experience)

Job Description:

Service Unit Manager will be responsible for a range of clinical specialities across the service.
Team management
Managing and developing services delivered across the Directorate.
The post holder will be operationally responsible for the day to day running of the service and will be required to monitor national performance targets specific to ensure they are achieved, and ensure corrective action is taken when necessary.
Monitoring medical staffing daily and escalate where necessary. -The post holder will work closely with colleagues in Primary Care, Community and NHSBSP to ensure that pathways are optimised.

Duties and responsibilities:

Continue to improve waiting times and establish effective monitoring systems, taking corrective action in conjunction with clinical staff.
Assist in reviewing demand and capacity planning on a regular basis, ensuring compliance with local and national targets and continuous improvement.
In conjunction with Director of Screening ensure that medical staff rotas are adequate and take corrective action when required.
Ensure that rotas are planned in advance and take into consideration current vacancy/recruitment status.
Actively engage in and lead 'Communication Cells' and use them as a catalyst to promote a culture of continuous quality improvement.
Develop and support the deployment of standard operating procedures to reinforce the agreed standard ways of working.
Highlight and report any areas of over or under performance and take action as appropriate.
Responsible for ensuring observation of Professional Codes of Conduct, Health and Safety at Work regulations, Data Protection Act, and the Code of Practice.
Responsible for reviewing and updating departmental policies and protocols to ensure compliance with the Trust's, NHSBSP and Department of Health requirements.
Ensure that there are adequate Governance procedures in place and that any concerns are addressed and/or escalated as appropriate.
Participate in the Senior Manager on call rota and Site Bed rota.
In liaison with the ward/departmental staff track individual patient pathways against expected length of stay.
Report on variances, present analysis of trends, proposing ideas for future service improvements.
The post holder will be expected to undertake service improvement and transformation projects across the service and to work closely with colleagues to review services and delivery of care.
The post holder will be responsible for managing a delegated budget in accordance with SFIs.

Requirements:

Educated to a degree level or equivalent
Masters or above equivalent
Experience of demand and capacity and activity planning
Significant management experience or equivalent obtained through a combination of continuous professional development and training courses including evidence of directly line managing a team.
Knowledge and understanding of the duties imposed on the Trust by legislation, NHS policy and priorities and the requirements of corporate governance.
Experience of financial management, budget setting, monitoring and determining corrective action.
Evidence of report writing skills and presentations skills.
Able to demonstrate leadership and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues at all levels of the organisation.
Involved in issues relating to corporate governance monitoring and standard setting.
Experience working within several sub Specialties.
Experience developing and implementing business and service development plans.
Ability to analyse and interpret complex and detailed information
