Are you an experienced electrical or mechanical supervisor/team leader looking for your next move into management? If so, we have an opportunity that has become available for an Electrical Mechanical and Instrumentation Area Manager to join our team, covering multiple sites in the West Dorset area.

The role

You will lead a team of electrical and mechanical professionals, including a range of Technicians, Apprentices and a Team Leader. You ll be inheriting a thoroughly passionate and dedicated team, who thrive on delivering service excellence across water recycling centres and terminal pumping stations across the South division. Ensuring and maintaining high standards of occupational and process health and safety will be a key part of this role, and you will feel comfortable challenging work activities to ensure they are carried out correctly according to the relevant safe system of work, risk assessment and/or permit.

As the Electrical Mechanical and Instrumentation Area Manager, you will provide a high level of day-to-day expertise and technical support on all aspects of Electrical Mechanical and Instrumentation areas, including showing organisation and leadership to Electrical Mechanical and Instrumentation Technicians. To achieve this, your excellent people management and communication skills will be second to none, as you ll regularly be communicating with your teams to provide engineering and technical solutions and provide the support they require.

A big focus for you will be on training and developing your Electrical Mechanical and Instrumentation team to ensure they are developing within their roles and are able to self-sufficiently take on complex jobs confidently.

Technicians have a variety of duties and diverse responsibilities which include maintaining, testing, installing, and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment. Examples of equipment that they work on include chemical dosing and UV systems, pumps and associated control gears, and electrical equipment, including switchgears motors. They also use control systems, such as VSDs and actuated valves, as well as flow, level, and pressure measurement systems and PLCs.

Additional responsibilities will see you manage operational budgets with input into capital prioritisation and creating cost effective solutions for the efficient delivery of planned electrical and mechanical maintenance and repairs. You ll provide 24/7 support to front line Electrical Mechanical and Instrumentation and operations staff in emergencies, while also having a big focus on health and safety to ensure your technicians are carrying out their work in line with best practices.

What do I need?

We are looking for someone who has exceptional people management and communication skills. As an inspirational leader, you ll be comfortable challenging the ways of working, while maintaining service excellence across our water recycling sites.

You ll have a big focus on engaging, training and developing your teams. You ll also be engaging with a wide range of senior internal customers, so you need to demonstrate your influencing ability too.

This is a dual skilled role, so the ideal candidate will have achieved a time served apprenticeship in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or an HNC/HND or equivalent qualification, along with knowledge and experience in the utilities industry, including IEE wiring regulations. ATEX awareness training would be an advantage, although training can be provided.

As well as a general knowledge of the industry, you should also have experience in CDM, confined space and DSEAR regulations. We work with a number of external contractors, so experience dealing with contractors would be an advantage. You will need to have experience in writing risk assessments and methods statements, while also being comfortable carrying out audits and inspections on internal stakeholders, external contractors and assets/sites.

The successful candidate will have excellent IT literacy. A full clean UK driving licence is also required due to the remote nature of the role.
