Following the recent bid submission for two offshore wind leases in the Netherlands, and in line with our future strategic growth ambitions for offshore wind in the Netherlands, we are looking to hire great people to join our offshore wind team in the UK and the Netherlands. These roles will form part of a multi-disciplinary project team which, if successful, will work together in the development, construction and operation of wind farms off the west coast of the Netherlands. This is just one part of the exciting integrated energy system that bp is looking to create in the Netherlands, with renewables at its centre.

Your initial focus will be on the Netherlands opportunity. However, bp has a portfolio of emerging wind energy projects and you should anticipate providing support to these in an agile manner. After the Netherlands project, we envisage continuing your role with these other projects.

It is possible that this role will become a secondment onto a bp joint venture. This can be discussed in more detail during the recruitment process.

Job AdvertAs a Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) Package Engineer, you will within our Engineering Function to support Projects in our offshore wind business. You will support the engineering of WTG packages to achieve right first time engineering, fabrication, transport, installation, commissioning and operation for the design life.

The role will initially be based in the bp Sunbury office with potential for transfer to a contractor project office and will be required to ensure a safe, cost effective and quality engineering delivery, against the Project schedule requirements.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Provide WTG package input to front-end project development.
  • Assess Technology Readiness Level of new products, develop a project Technology Plan and manage the vendor to deliver this.
  • Develop the technical portion of the package requisition including functional specifications and information requirements.
  • Deliver criticality assessments and work closely with the Quality Lead to define test and inspection requirements.
  • Support the technical bid evaluation
  • Performance manage vendor package engineering
  • Technical verification of package engineering including design reviews
  • Review and approve bp deviations
  • Verify supplier documentation and manage the document review process
  • Use this information to inform inspector visits and support client verification of Factory Acceptance Tests
  • Support technical queries from other project functions, particularly operations and commissioning
  • Verify package technical close-out and recommend readiness to ship.
  • Identify spares requirements to meet the plant availability requirements.
  • Capture lessons at keys stages during the package management lifecycle to inform project knowledge.

Essential Education:
  • You will hold degree in Mechanical Engineering at Masters level (US/UK) or equivalent.

Essential Experience:
  • Demonstrated technical competency in mechanical engineering discipline with broad understanding of the applicable codes and standards for the scope
  • Experience of projects (pre-FEED/FEED/detailed design, construction, installation and operations support)
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Understanding of the interfaces and interaction with supporting engineering disciplines for the scope of this package
  • Understand technical risk identification and management processes to deliver safe and competitive projects
  • Understand Quality Management process for engineering, manufacture and installation
  • Understand technical aspects of competitive procurement process for packages
  • Experience of performance management of others (including. 3rd party engineering services providers) to support timely decision making
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across functions and within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Fluent English written and spoken and language

Desirable Criteria:
  • You will be professionally qualified (Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer) or equivalent.
  • Wind Turbine Generator Package experience
  • Experience of technology development process
  • Experience working in a joint venture or non-operated environment and working in a multicultural environment.
