Experienced PLC Controls Engineer required for large Manufacturer based in Plymouth. Reporting to the Production Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and development of all factory control systems. In line with Business & Engineering strategy the successful candidate will ensure that the company is utilising the latest best practice, which will lead to continually innovating processes to improve Quality, Production and reduce Production costs. Key Responsibilities:
Support all the Electronic, PLC and Software systems within the manufacturing department. These will include systems such as electronic standard operating procedures, automated data farming, visual inspection systems and future production machining and assembly automation.
Responsible for maintenance and support of all Mitsubishi PLC control units on site and their associated IP network linkages to SQL databases on the company server system.
Responsible for programming of all new PLCs and associated peripheral devices that are introduced into the production environment.
Developing new IT-based assembly and test systems to improve productivity and quality.
Heavily involved in productivity-related projects, such as electronic OEE collection, control charts and front end visual control software. This will be written in a high level programming language, preferably Microsoft Visual Studio languages.
The data capture and manipulation of SQL databases on SQL servers.
Participate in many improvement project teams. This will involve technical input to projects on electronic & software systems and methods.
Specify, install and commission capital equipment in line with the business requirements - including PLC automation and other software-based tasks.
Ensure that the software or PLC automation process is capable and in control by using SPC to monitor key product & process characteristics, identifying violations and assisting in remedial actions.
Support continuous improvement, helping in the collection of electronic process performance data such as OEE and working with the production team to improve the throughput of key constraint/bottleneck processes using new and innovative technology.
Update and maintain all existing PLC control systems and be responsible for the PLC programs held on those systems.
Develop new systems in line with production requirements.
Lead in the procurement (CEA) of Capital investment for production automation via software and electronic PLC controls and new technology.
Investigate new technologies and methods to help innovate processes.
Lead problem solving - arriving at the conclusions necessary using appropriate tools and techniques (Six Sigma, Lean, SPC tools).
Support all 5S & continuous improvement activities.
Production line performance - Be able to respond to production priorities and production performance measures to keep lines working.
OEE - Maximum available time on PLC controlled machines.
Cycle time reduction - reduce time on automation machines & Production automation improvements.
Cost reduction - process innovation.
Production automation procurement - TPM improvements
The successful candidate must be able to work a weekly alternating shift comprising of Monday to Friday 06:00am to 14:00pm & Monday to Friday 14:00pm to 22:00pm. Please Note: The salary range on offer is inclusive of shift premium. The salary offered to the successful candidate will be within this salary range inclusive of the shift premium, dependant upon experience.
Essential Experience / Qualifications Required:
Minimum of a HNC Qualification in a relevant Electronic / Electrical Engineering Qualification.
PLC programming, ladder logic and electronic integration of systems.
Experience in use of signal processing or data acquisition software tools.
Integrating systems over networks.
Software experience in modern programming languages.
Lean tools and techniques.
