Based at 19 Bennet Road, Reading, RG2 0QX

This is a great opportunity for an information professional to take the first step into leadership. The post offers plenty of independence and the chance to work across archives and hard copy/electronic records.

Reading s Records Management Unit looks after business information from public authorities across Berkshire. This includes two countywide joint arrangements: legacy records of the old Berkshire County Council, and an adoption and looked-after children s archive that dates back to 1926.

Help is also required with digital media. Reading is moving its unstructured data into SharePoint and the post will be directorate lead for its operation, covering the range of services typically found in a district council. Berkshire Record Office, the archives of the Royal County, will also look to you for support with its digital preservation system.

We can offer you a warm welcome into a small but dedicated team, and the scope to make the role your own.

We seek the best talent from the widest pool of people as diversity and inclusion is the key to our success. Reading Borough Council is a Disability Confident Employer and is committed to the recruitment and continued employment of people with disabilities.

About the role

The role will lead the Directorate of Economic Growth and Neighbourhood Services support for Reading s information management strategy and lifecycle programme for its business information, records and data. It will manage the legacy joint arrangements for Berkshire County Council modern records and the adoption and looked-after children's archive. And it will lead provision of a records storage and advice service for external clients.

The role has day-to-day responsibility for the safe-keeping and compliance of significant information assets. It manages three staff and a services budget of around GBP40k per annum.
