Find your future with us.This post is for an Analytical Solution Specialist Intern to work within the Strategy function in Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) in Fleet. BDUK is a subsidiary of the Boeing Company and currently employs over 1,200 people in the UK. BDUK is responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK defence customers including E-7 AEW&C, P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, C4ISR Services, and Through Life Support for the Chinook & Apache Fleets, Logistic Information Services and Training Services. The Boeing Portal in Fleet, Hampshire houses the Strategic Experimentation & Analysis Team whose role is to conduct Operations Analysis, Simulation and Modelling in support of both BDUK and wider Boeing Defence & Security (BDS).The purpose of the role is to work within an established team of Boeing Operational Analysts (with experience in the Air, Maritime and Land, Cyber and Space domains) to deliver independent, focused and defensible analysis across the UK Defence and Security domain. This specific role is for a general Intern - Operational Analyst to work alongside the existing team and to support the conduct of analysis tasks and experimental campaigns that will identify, guide and support emerging opportunities within both BDUK and wider BDS markets.Position Responsibilities: The analysis work undertaken within The Boeing Portal focusses on the provision of hard, quantitative evidence that can be used within business cases to support procurement decisions. Candidates for this internship position must therefore have a mathematical background and be comfortable with the provision and defence of empirical evidence. In addition, the successful candidate would be advantaged if they have a broad background in Operational Analysis or Statistical techniques and tools and also to have the motivation and confidence to learn while concurrently delivering a personal portfolio of experiments and working directly with the full-time analysts, customers and other Boeing colleagues.The successful candidate will support the delivery against the Operational Analysis tasks set to ensure that the team is able to carry out analysis and decision support across BDUK s portfolio of Platform Programmes and Supporting Services and where appropriate deliver the same capability to wider Boeing. Typical focus areas are:Market Analysis - Reviewing potential military uses of Boeing produces through quantitative means to support the growth of BDS into new and existing markets.Force Structures Analysis - Using the full spectrum of Operational Research techniques (soft and hard) to develop internal and external customers understanding of their future defence requirements, identification of gaps and the analysis of potential solutions.Platform Level Assessment - This includes applying a broad range of quantitative techniques to support customers in the down-selecting of platform options through the identification of suitable measures of effectiveness. This analysis must be robust and independent with the expectation that it will be used in support of external Customer Reports and Business Cases.Cost Analysis - High level cost analysis of platform solutions to provide an empirical measure of comparison enabling cost-capability trade studies in support of customer prioritisation in increasingly constrained budgetary environments.Use of Operational Research, Statistics and Management Science techniques to provide qualitative and quantitative insights to enable decision support.Use of forecasting and optimization tools to provide Decision Support directly to a Customer or to integrate them into Discrete Event Simulations as part of an Experimental Campaign.Operational Research report writing and the incorporation of Operational Analysis Data into Customer Business Cases.The Operations Analyst is also required to:Learn and apply Project Management Best Practices to ensure Operational Analysis tasks and Campaigns are completed to time, cost and quality. Support the delivery, alongside senior analysts, of stakeholder management meetings and seminars, including the exploitation of Operational Research concepts such as Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis to capture decision support data.Prepare and participate in briefings to internal and external customers (with appropriate support)Represent BDUK (in areas of domain expertise) at various internal and external events/conferences at Boeing and University sites.Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status.Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):The Boeing Portal environment requires candidates to be self-motivated and able to undertake self-directed learning in new areas (that they can then rapidly apply) to achieve success. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):Broad knowledge or interest in the UK military and security domain from a strategic to tactical level, including some aspects of:Understanding of the UK Armed Forces order of battle, equipment and platform capabilities, tactics, techniques and procedures across multiple domains.Understanding of emerging Defence capabilities.Understanding of the military capabilities and tactics, techniques and procedures of other nations in the EU and NATO region.Broad knowledge or interest in the UK s Other Government Departments.Possess graphic skills or design media skills for the preparation of presentation, audio-graphical product to provide presentation to both external and internal customers or colleagues.Typical Education & Experience:Key interest and demonstrable skills in suitable analytical or mathematical discipline e.g. Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics, Economics.Knowledge ofOperational Research techniques for problem solvingStatistical techniques for exploratory analysisSystems EngineeringUnderstanding of Project Management techniquesThe ability to analyse, problem solve and develop objective, efficient and innovative solutions to customer requirements in a timely manner, with a sense of urgency supported by senior analysts providing detailed task management and direction.Good written and oral communications skills in English.A UK security clearance at SC (minimum) - desirable.Relocation:This position does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
