Faculty / Directorate
The Faculty of Health and Life sciences (HLS) is a large Faculty that offers education across a number of health and social care courses. Home to four specialist schools - Allied Health Sciences, Applied Social Sciences, Leicester School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine, and Leicester School of Pharmacy - the Faculty educates and develops professionals who make a significant difference to lives, health, wellbeing, communities and society. Our teaching reflects the latest developments in the sector and many courses have professional accreditations, including BSc (Hons) Psychology which is BPS accredited and aims to equip students with an understanding of theories and research about mind and behaviour.
Role
We are looking to recruit a Psychology Technician who will work alongside a small team, consisting of another Psychology Technician and a Senior Psychology Technician, overseeing the day to day running of the Psychology facilities.
You will be required to work alongside other Technicians to support additional teaching areas within the Faculty when needed.The primary role will be to provide technical support to staff and students in Psychology subject areas. This will include the preparation of designated Psychology rooms, suites and laboratories across 3 buildings for teaching and research. You will be expected to provide training, practical assistance and advice in the use of specialist equipment, techniques and software either on a one to one or group basis and be responsible for the maintenance and bookings of specific rooms, resources and equipment.
Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to work as part of a small team providing a full technical service to Psychology students and staff, under the direction of the Team Leader and Senior Technician. You may be required to support the wider technical teams within HLS when required.
You should possess a minimum of a BSc in Psychology or a closely related discipline. Demonstrable knowledge and experience in psychology research methods, data analysis and the use of relevant specialist software is essential, e.g. SPSS, Psychopy, EEG, Eyetracker, Superlab, E-Prime. You will be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all members of the University community.
Proven computer programming ability (PYTHON) and/or familiarity with simulation management eg Learning Space, VLE eg. Blackboard or Moodle, software incl. Panopto, MS Teams, will identify you as a stand out applicant.
