The Role

This role forms part of the Leaf Sustainability Team with the primary objective to deliver our strategy aimed at further enhancing farmer livelihoods within tobacco growing communities. You will be responsible for aligning the strategy to international benchmarks, establishing clear milestones, assess and implement projects aimed at further strengthening farmers financial security and create the relevant partnerships with subject matter experts and stakeholders to help drive positive change in the farming communities. You will also work closely with our leaf suppliers to collect and utilise data to maximise the impact of existing- and new initiatives. This includes strategies to maximise the impact the industry can have increasing access to basic needs, developing crop and income diversification programmes and enhancing on-farm productivity and efficiencies.

This role will also be responsible for supporting our direct contract market and direct farming operations to initiate projects to increase and measure productivity and operational efficiency.

You will work within the leaf business function providing an excellent service to all stakeholders based on a business partnering approach. You will be required to work cross-functionally with Group functions, Sustainability and leaf production teams, leaf suppliers and our partners within the Sustainable Tobacco Program. Some travel will be required.

Principle Accountabilities:

* Lead the delivery of our livelihood's strategy, aligned with international benchmarks.

* Assess, support, and enhance both current and new crop diversity, farmer sustainability and productivity programmes.

* Establish key internal and external partnerships with stakeholders and subject matter experts (e.g., The Living Income Community of Practice).

* Evolve KPIs, capture and analyse the relevant data and enhance the governance system including assurance for external reporting on our progress.

* Effectively implement a communications and education strategy within our business and supplier base on our livelihood's strategy and progress.

Key Relationships

* Internal: Leaf Department, Group Sustainability, own operations

* External: Subject matter experts, suppliers, governance structures and partnered organisations

Key Skills & Experience:

Essential

* University Master's degree- Economics, Agri Business, International / Sustainable Development

* Experience of developing and implementing farmer livelihoods programs or poverty reduction programs

* Experience working in a high-performing, fast paced and challenging environment

* Understanding of UNGPs, SDGs and relevant legal frameworks

Desirable

* Experience working with multiple stakeholders

* Agri background

* Data analysis

* Ability to support a clear business framework

* High Ethical Standards and commitment
