The role
Kamali House is located within a residential area of Ormiston, East Lothian and has been registered to provide long term care to a maximum of two young people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour who are unable to live with their own families.
As a Residential Worker you will primarily be based in our long term residential in Ormiston. You will provide care for our young people throughout the day by supporting with set routines, attend to personal care and administer medication following appropriate training. You will work with the team to develop and deliver young person-centred plans in relation to their needs through ought the day. You will be planning and supporting the young person in taking part in activities based at the service as well as out in the community such as trips to the beach, horse riding, community-based activities and groups and various other activities in order to develop their social and life skills
We work directly with children and young people with complex learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. We work in partnership with CAMHS LD and our own Behaviour Consultant to develop and deliver person centres support plans that offer consistency and clear outcomes for all out young people.
We firmly believe that behaviour is communication and work to identify what the young people are trying to tell us through their behaviour and support them to communicate that in a positive way.
Working in residential care is both challenging and rewarding. Our aim is to give every young person we work with the support and guidance to reach their potential and support their aspirations for a positive future, and this is a vital part of our work.
This role will be working 37 hours a week on a 3 week rolling pattern of 1 weekend off in 3. Shifts are 7am- 2.30pm or 2pm - 9.30pm. We are open to discussions around shift flexibility, if required, at interview stage.

-Helping young people in all aspects of their daily lives.
-Having good communication skills and the ability to engage well with both young people, colleagues and other professionals.
-Being a creative thinker and having a solution focused approach.
-Using your skills, knowledge and experience to meet the needs of young people.
You will need:
-A commitment to working on shift rota pattern, which includes midweek, weekends and bank holidays.
-A positive approach, providing a fun environment for all the children in our care.
-Ideally, a HNC and SVQ 3 in a social care discipline (or a qualification which would meet the registration requirements) or a commitment to working towards these.
-Experience of working with children and young people with disabilities.
-Safeguarding knowledge.
