Welfare Support Team Support Officer
Shrewsbury

GBP11.50 per hour
Our client is looking for an experienced Welfare Support Team Support Officer.
The team also administers discretionary Local Welfare Provision funding that Shropshire residents can apply to if they are in financial hardship. You may therefore also be required to make decisions on applications for support from the Council s Homeless Prevention Fund. Decisions must be transparently fair and in accordance with governing policy. The successful candidates will be responsible for showing that all facts have been gathered and appropriately used in reaching a decision.
All our customers may be in very difficult circumstances and as a result may require strong but sensitive handling.
The successful candidate will be taken on at Grade 7 SCP12 (GBP11.70 per hour). The placement is likely to involve taking these calls in the main, but duties may also include the following:
Taking Housing Options (homelessness) calls and logging homeless applications.
Taking initial Welfare Support Team applications over the telephone
Looking at applications (making contact with customers as necessary and requesting the necessary information or evidence to support their applications).
Signposting customers to wider support from a variety of services and organisations.
Looking at applications for support from our Local Welfare Provision or Homeless Prevention Fund funding and being accountable for making sensitive discretionary decisions.
Communicating decisions to customers and making the resulting awards.
If necessary, providing constructive challenge to customers whose personal financial decisions contribute to the need.
Signposting customers to wider support from a variety of services and organisations.
Any other duties as may be required.
Initial training will be at Shirehall in Shrewsbury, after which the successful candidate will need to be able to work from home in a confidential setting. The necessary equipment will be provided.
This post is for 37 hours per week to be worked Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, minus lunchtimes.
