KentLive is looking for a content editor to join the newsdesk driving one of the largest and fastest growing digital news sites in the region.
This is a rare opportunity to take up a senior role leading a creative team of reporters after the previous occupant took up a role on a national title. You will play a key role in our strategy to continue to grow our audience at scale, to deepen our relationship with existing readers and to reach our underserved communities.
The ideal step for somebody with newsdesk experience or a senior reporter looking for that next challenge, you'll be passionate about reporting on local news in a dynamic and eye catching way, bringing features, reviews and What's On to our readers right here in Kent. What will the role involve?
- Leading a team to find and tell stories about local communities in Kent which engage as many readers as possible, and stories which will be of interest to local communities
- Build communities online and in real life to share stories with once published, and lead reporters in engaging with readers about those stories
- Tell stories in many different ways, including (but not limited to) real-time live blogs, articles, video, audio and pictures
- Ensure every piece of content is thoroughly researched, accurate and balanced prior to publication, in accordance with the Editor's Code of Practice
- This position is predominantly remote working on patch with regular team and 121 meetings
Who are we looking for?
- NCTJ or equivalent journalism degree and knowledge of media law
- Experience as a senior reporter or content editor
- Ability to lead, motivate and develop teams
- Strong storytelling skills and excellent attention to detail
- An understanding of social media both in terms of finding content and sharing it
- An understanding of how to use analytics to inform content commissioning and production - or a willingness to learn
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to present in conference
- Adaptable, flexible, creative and full of flair
- Well organised, and a positive, can-do attitude
- Ability to work quickly and effectively under deadline pressure
- Energy, drive, determination and self-motivation
- Flexible approach and ability to work shifts
