Empowering customers to live rewarding and happy lives. That's when it hits home.
We have a fabulous job opportunity for you to join our awesome team as a Support Worker. We support our brilliant customers who are young vulnerable people aged 16 to 19 years. Most of our customers are care leavers and they require lots of help and support from us to achieve their aspirations and prepare them for independence before they leave us.
Our customers live in a 5-bed supported accommodation service in Norwich and our team provides support 24/7.
We help our customers by providing them with a safe and stable home and by offering them support and advice on anything they need help with. If we can't help, then we will find someone who can.
We help change our customer's lives for the better. You'll play your part by assisting in the delivery of tasks that are based on our customers personal support plans, and their needs and aspirations. You'll work with our Senior Support Workers and external agencies to assess and engage support for our customers. We empower our customers to develop the independent living skills they need, to successfully move on. Together we'll make a difference!
Customer quote
'The staff here are always really helpful and they are never too busy never too for me. They help me with cooking whenever I need it'
Be yourself at Home
Home Group is committed to tackling prejudice and discrimination, not just for our customers, but for our colleagues too! We're super proud of our internal Diversity Networks and allies (Multicultural, LGBTQIA+ and Disability) which support colleagues from different backgrounds to be their true selves. We recognise and celebrate our differences, !
About you
As our Support Worker, you're passionate and motivated to help vulnerable people make positive and lasting changes to their lives. You'll impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative, positively influencing people from all different backgrounds.
You'll have experience in safeguarding, risk assessments, confidentiality, support plans, alongside working collaboratively.
If you're not the biggest fan of technology, that's not a problem to us. You do need to know that we are quite a high-tech company and most of our application process and mandatory learning are online. However we're glad to support you, if you need help.
It would be amazing if you have worked in this type of environment before, however it's your "can do" positive attitude and enthusiasm that are critical to make this role a success. We can nurture your talent, just let us know in your cover letter why you have a passion for working here!
As this is a community-based role, you'll need to travel around to spend time with your customers. You could do this job using public transport, or if you drive and have access to a vehicle that would also be amazing! (we pay your expenses to cover this use!)
When you join as our Support Worker, you'll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don't have a transferrable one.
About our team
You'll work alongside our fabulous team who are super passionate about supporting customers to reach their goals and celebrating their achievements. To us were not just a team we're a 'work family'.
Our manager is Vicky, who loves a bit of heavy metal music (although she's old enough to know better) and she has worked for Home Group for 18 years. There are 5 of us in the team, alongside Vicky and we don't just love to support our customers, we're there for each other too! You'll be working with Keesha who is our support coordinator. She loves to keep our young people busy with exercise and baking. She will also be there for you, giving you advice and support about how best to support our young customers.
Then there's Aleksandra and Lee our night workers. Aleksandra first came to work for Home Group several years ago as an apprentice. Even though she has a day job elsewhere she comes back to us as a night worker. She just couldn't keep away! Aleksandra loves her boogie board classes and says that she practices gratitude (that's making time to take notice of and reflecting on the positive things in life). Lee loves his cars and he'll try his hand at a bit of DIY.
And also, we have a full-time support worker vacancy that we are also recruiting to, to replace Brigita who is leaving our team to become our behavioural support worker. Home Group is fantastic at giving colleagues the opportunity to progress and further their career through our 'Grow Our Own' initiative. Please come and become a part of our little work family!
Working hours
We provide 24-hour support to our customers each day. You'll work on a rota basis and take your turn working days, evenings, weekends and bank holidays. We need you to be flexible to meet the needs of our customers, but we aim to give you the time you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!
Although we have dedicated night workers you may occasionally be asked to work a night shift to cover their leave. Our sleeping nights are between 12pm and 7am but you need to be available if there is an emergency. If you do a night shift you will get paid an additional GBP50 for the time that you are asleep.
Casual Job
Looking for a more flexible working pattern? You can also join us on a flexible basis by being part of our bank. You can work hours that fit around your current commitments or even pick up some additional shifts to your main role to earn some extra cash and get paid on a weekly basis.
