Purpose & Responsibilities

The Headteacher has a duty of care for all children placed in their care and overall management within the room they are based in.

They are responsible for the overall line management within the room in order to ensure the legal and curriculum requirements are met in line with the school.

Policies and procedures.

A good, strong knowledge of child development is essential to ensure that all the children's individual needs are fully met.

They are responsible for ensuring all staff prepare and supervise suitable activities to create and develop a stimulating environment in order to provide a high level of quality childcare, whilst maintaining a professional and positive outcome for both children and staff.

To be responsible for the logging, tracking, planning and analysis of information related to children's learning and develop ment. This includes but is not limited to:

Observations, planning, next steps, daily activity progress, cohort tracking, formative reports, gaps in learning, etc.

To be responsible for all administrative elements relating to the nursery and its upkeep, including but not limited to risk assessments, staff records, children's records, finance and fee records, etc.

They are also responsible for communicating with the Directors

regarding the activities and progress in the whole nursery in order to meet the

curriculum requirements.

Strong communication skills are imperative, this involves listening, questioning, and understanding and responding to what is being communicated by children, young people and those caring for them. You will work and may lead as part of a

multi agency team and will be expected to have a clear understanding of your role and the role of other professionals.

You will share information with other professionals in a timely manner and work together for the safety and wellbeing of the child.

To present to the Directors marketing solutions for your nursery and business

on a regular basis.

Attend and lead team meetings.

To organise and lead Open Days and other events in conjunction with the Directors.

To be an inspirational lead to the team and developing their skills and talents.

To be fully accountable for the nursery budget, spend and petty cash handling

To present monthly occupancy forecasts to the Directors.

Is responsible for leading recruitment processes.

Responsible for ensuring that the nursery is a profitable business and provides a fun and safe environment for all children.

A working knowledge of the Children's Act & GDPR.

Undertaking training in Health and Safety as necessary, both on appointment and as required in line with legislative changes.

Following codes of safe working practices for both children and staff.

Reporting any concerns in relation to the wellbeing and safeguarding of children and staff as outlines in the company's policies and procedures.

Coordinate plan and prioritise activities and progress in order to create and develop a stimulating environment.

Ensure all staff are fully aware of their responsibilities in line with all policies and procedures and legislative requirements.

Making sure that the nursery complies with all aspects of various internal company audits and that any action points are addressed.

???Promote a high level of quality childcare whilst maintaining a professional and positive outcome for both children and staff.

Responsible with the day to day management of the nurseries operation.

Assist with the monitoring and reviewing of employee's performance and CPD.

Attend additional meetings such as OFSTED / Safeguarding as requested by the

Directors.

Assist with the resolution of issues / queries / complaints to a satisfactory conclusion.

Assist with the monitoring of the standards within the nursery to maximise the very highest level of childcare.

Report to partners including Ofsted and RIDDOR when required.

Assist with maintaining and improving the operational efficiency and quality of service of the nursery to ensure it remains a profitable business including planning and carrying out effective marketing.

Assist with providing effective training and development opportunities for all staff in order to stay compliant in line with legal requirements.

Take sufficient care of all visitors, staff and parents in order to comply with legal requirements.

Undertake and partake in investigations and disciplinary hearings as and when required.

To be proud and act as an ambassador for our school.

Undertake other duties within the scope of the post as may be requested by the Directors.

Person Specification (D = Desirable, E = Essential)

NNEB, BTEC, NVQ 3 MCI Diploma or equivalent childcare qualification E

Paediatric First Aid D

Food Hygiene Level 2 D

Working towards or in possession of a BA Honours Degree in Early Years D/E

Hold a wide range and relevant childcare experience in a day nursery environment E

(minimum 3 years) Experience in supervisory role (minimum 2-3 year) E

Ability to work independently and confidently. E

Experience of demonstrating Montessori teaching D

Experience of holding budgets E

Has developed strategies to develop and build on occupancy D

Good written communication, literacy and numeracy skills E

Evidence of undertaking staff training and development D

Knowledge of childcare legislative polices and their implementation E

Good professional attitude. For example, dress, conduct, flexibility and mutual respect for others and a passion to work with children. E.

As the post-holder develops, there will inevitably be some changes in the emphasis to the duties of the post. The School expects that the post - holder will recognise this and adopt a flexible approach to work and be willing to participate in CPD where necessary.
