The role
The Student Wellbeing Service sits within the Education and Student Experience Division and we work closely with other student support services including Student Health and Student Counselling, Disability Services and Student Inclusion in order to provide an integrated support approach to the student experience. This work is underpinned by the University’s student mental health and wellbeing strategy.
The Student Wellbeing Service has evolved over the past four years and has had further investment in response to the ever-changing needs of our students. The service consists of a dedicated team who triage all referrals into the service and four teams of Student Wellbeing Advisers and Managers who provide support to both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students from across our academic schools.
The service aims to provide wellbeing advice and support, advice on how to develop wellbeing self-management skills and to ensure students with additional support needs are engaging with relevant and appropriate support.
If you are keen to join a service that is creative, motivated and focused on making a difference to students, then we look forward to hearing from you.
What will you be doing?
As a Wellbeing Adviser, you will undertake student casework which can often be complex, high risk, time bound and psychologically challenging, working alongside the Manager where necessary to effectively manage risk. A key part of the role is to coordinate support for individual students who are vulnerable or in crisis, in collaboration with colleagues across the University and external agencies. You will also create and deliver workshops on specific wellbeing issues, as well as enhancing the preventative support offered.
You should apply if
-
You have a passion for and experience of supporting people to get the support they need.
-
You are an excellent communicator and able to build relationships with people who are seeking help as well as colleagues.
-
You are able to maintain boundaries, exercise appropriate discretion and confidentiality, manage expectations, and negotiate solutions.
-
You have well-developed active listening skills and strong emotional intelligence.
-
You work effectively autonomously, referring to more senior colleagues when required, whilst thriving in a busy team of people undertaking similar work.
-
You are committed to providing inclusive and accessible services to all students.
