Post and Packing Operative

Salary: £24,087 pa rising to £28,429 pa after four years' service.

Location: Head Office, Salford Quays, M50 3XZ.

A vacancy exists for a Post and Packing Operative in the Post and Despatch Section based at the Union’s Head Office in Manchester.

Hours of work are 10.00 am – 6.00 pm (Monday to Thursday), 10.00 am – 5.00 pm (Friday).

The hours of work will be varied to meet the needs of the service and some flexibility will be required. The postholder may need to start between 8.00 am and 10.00 am on occasion.

The principal duties are: receiving and unloading pallet deliveries at Head Office and the warehouse, checking condition of goods before putting into storage; handling and moving stock using mechanical handling equipment (MHE); inputting orders, updating, maintaining and analysing stock levels; online ordering of office supplies, following office guidelines..

The successful application will possess: knowledge of post room operations and relevant systems; the ability to undertake manual handling and despatch tasks; IT skills, including Excel and Outlook; the ability to communicate effectively and work flexibly in a small team; the ability to plan and organise; knowledge of switchboard operation; experience of handling security issues involving people.
