Who are we?
We're the UK's largest water provider, with over 15 million customers to serve every day. Water is essential to daily life, and that means our business is always open. We make a difference daily to millions of customers by supplying 2.7 billion litres of water to around 10 million homes. Our main role is to ensure customers can turn on the tap and get world-class drinking water 24/7. We also safely transport and treat waste, returning it to the environment.

We are currently installing hundreds of thousands of smart meters to drive consumption insights helping our customers manage water more effectively. These meters generate millions of lines of data and we need a team of skilled resources to manage this data and generate the analytical insight necessary to bring consumption to life.

About the role:
As a Design Estimator, you'll be responsible for designing and producing quotes for new clean water connections to our existing network. This role will require you to learn in-depth technical information about providing new water services to our customers.
You'll need to make sure we provide first-class customer service to our customers, keeping them up to date with their projects throughout the life cycle of work. That means you'll be involved from the receipt of their application form through to acceptance and payment of their connection quote and beyond.

Working collaboratively within an established team and across the business, you'll work with a wide variety of stakeholders.

What you will be doing:

Prepare designs and quotes for new water connections when required.

Deal with customer enquiries and liaise with areas of the business in the effective delivery of new connections while at all times protecting Thames Water's assets.

Develop excellent relationships with customers and ensure they receive an exceptional experience.

Carry out accurate work complying with company processes and regulatory requirements to agreed operational performance targets.

Identify opportunities to change processes to improve the customer journey.
What skills are we looking for?
We're looking for someone with outstanding customer service skills, who can be flexible and positive to an ever-changing customer and business needs. Strong communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships to deliver exceptional customer service.

You must be able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships. Previous experience in dealing with customer complaints, both written and verbal, is advantageous.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to learn quickly and build knowledge of company processes and policies. Attention to detail will be vital, as you'll be responsible for ensuring that all work is correct and compliant.

You'll have exceptional organisation ability and good problem-solving skills. You'll be a team player who's able to work in a pressurised environment and meet demanding targets. You must be IT literate and have an understanding of internal systems and processes. Knowledge of water network operational processes is desirable but not essential.

What's in it for you!
Our competitive salary package includes an excellent contributory pension, 26 days of holiday per year increasing with the length of service, and a wider benefits scheme.
We're proud of the positive ways of working we have adopted during the pandemic. We want to create a more flexible and dynamic environment so all our colleagues can thrive. For our office-based roles, we're moving to a hybrid approach where we'll provide options around working from our offices, our operational sites, and home dependent on role/team/individual. This will be discussed during the assessment process.
