A temporary position for a Patent Searcher has arisen within the NSG Group Intellectual Property Department to provide searching resource in support of the Intellectual Property department activities.

Reporting to the Group IP and Licensing Manager, key strands of the role will include: conducting Prior Art/Novelty searches, supporting IP Attorneys’ activities to protect NSG Group IP assets by for example obtaining patents for NSG; Performing Freedom to Operate searches, supporting R&D and Attorneys at the various stages of R&D projects by identifying 3rd party IP; and Watching 3rd party IP and ensuring systems are maintained to identify new applications for patents or other IP filed by 3rd parties, that could impact upon NSG business interests.

In addition, as a Patent Searcher, you will also carry out Validity searching, supporting IP Attorneys’ efforts to invalidate 3rd party IP and conduct IP Landscape searching, providing general searches in potential new product areas to assist senior personnel’s decisions concerning new investment and direction of product development, especially for incubator and new Value-Added products. The successful candidate will also assist in maintaining the NSG Technology Knowledge Base, which will require the candidate to gain an understanding of NSG’s technology classification system and work areas.

These services are provided in support of the whole of the NSG Group – Primarily R&D Europe and US, but also Japan.

The ideal candidate will have a background in Science or Engineering and hold professional qualifications and/or have experience in the field of Patent/Scientific Literature searching. In addition, the ideal candidate will have excellent organisational skills, the ability to work autonomously and have a keen eye for detail.
