Job Title: Health & Safety Officer

Salary: GBP25,000 - GBP28,000 based on experience and Veolia benefits

Hours: 40 hours per week. Monday to Friday 8.00am - 4.30pm

Location: Slough, SL1 4DX

What will you be doing?

To become the market leading model for safety and environmental performance, developing and maintaining all appropriate standards, implementing, and reporting safety indicators, (targeting Zero harm).

To create and sustain a fully compliant workplace, meeting, statutory, regulatory, Veolia/Lonza and corporate standards

Compliance with all Health and Safety policies and procedures
Provide guidance and administrative services for the contract ops team in accordance with applicable Lonza/Veolia policies and practices
Deliver the general H&S administration services to the team include filing, data entry, scheduling
Maintain the VMR compliance and assisting in the management of communications and paperwork
Manage communications with the team, leading meetings, originating documentation and tracking progress of actions and task completion targets are met
Assist Ops Managers to liaise with external agencies relation to health and safety matters
Act as SME for the team and support with contractor management utilising existing control systems
Support reporting (content and format) on a monthly basis or as otherwise required
Ensure compliance to applicable codes, legislation, and procedures including health and safety as advised by the central Veolia Risk team
To recommend control measures and advise on the standard of P.P.E. issued to employees.
Maintain accurate records/documentation associated with your work and the activities of the ops teams
Immediately report problems/failures that may impact on the organisation and/or its clients/customers to Ops Managers
Adhere to all organisation policies and procedures
Interact and cooperate with all members of the organisation, its suppliers and clients/customers
From time to time you may be expected to be adviser and part of special projects as are reasonably required of your job role.
Conduct health and safety inspections and prepare reports of all the company's operations.
Immediately contact the Director responsible for health and safety if situations are found, that in the opinion of the Safety Manager, require immediate rectification or the stopping of any operation
To carry out or support managers in carrying out investigations into all accidents and near-miss incidents and to record the findings on the relevant forms.
To highlight areas where training/certification is required to meet the standards imposed by Legislation, Approved Codes of Practice, or H.S.E. guidance.
To bring new techniques for improving health, safety and welfare to the attention of the

What are we looking for

Previous experience in a similar role
NEBOSH/IOSH and NVQ Level 3 in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent
Good understanding of administration and organising H&S Systems
An understanding of health and safety issues in a manufacturing environment
Good analytical, interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
Basic project management skills
Experience of office software (WP, spreadsheet, database)
Ability to work under pressure
Willingness to participate in further training and development and achieve further qualifications
