Tree /Arboriculture Manager

Salary: GBP38,000 per annum plus car, bonus and other Veolia benefits

Hours: 40 hours per week Monday - Friday 8:00 to 16:30

Location: Watford, WD18 OFB

What will you be doing?

Manage Watford Borough Council's tree stock and advising, developing and implementing tree and woodland strategies and policies in consultation with our Client.
Prepare and implement tree maintenance programmes and liaise with the Council's Client team and planning service on tree related matters as and when required and support the Council's Green Infrastructure Projects.
Attend meetings with external Hertfordshire wide groups, such as the Herts Landscape Officers Group and effectively deal with all tree related enquiries/complaints, including responding verbally, and in writing.
Site inspections, technical advice and recording of all relevant information.
Manage and control contractors carrying out tree surgery and maintenance to ensure work is carried out safely and to a high quality and manage and maintain records on Ezytreev relating to trees including the statutory register of Tree Preservation Orders
Advising Development Management on the proactive making of new TPOs, breaches of protection, commenting on applications for works to protected trees and impacts on planning proposals.
You will be required to comment on applications for works to trees in Conservation Areas and impacts of planning proposals on trees with high amenity value within these areas, advise on applications for the discharge of landscape conditions.
Setting, implementing and managing budgets and ensuring the business operates in line with health & safety and environmental legislation, industry best practice and company policy and procedures.

What are we looking for?

Possess good interpersonal skills and good communication skills to a variety of audiences.
Experience of developing Health and Safety conscious culture, project planning and management experience
Hold an advanced Arboriculture/tree and woodland management qualifications - Diploma, HNC or similar, and/or a significant number of years of tree and woodland management experience,
Relevant professional qualifications e.g. IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety & Health) Managing Safely and be QTR (quantified tree risk assessment) trained or similar.
An advanced level of technical knowledge in arboriculture, tree and woodland management
Experience of PC based systems and packages including spreadsheets and databases. Significant knowledge of and experience of using Ezytreev tree management system, mapping and GIS systems.
Ability to interpret relevant legislation and guidance and apply this to the management and maintenance of trees and woodlands and preparation of strategies.
Experience and understanding of health and safety requirements relevant to the management of trees and woodlands in parks and other areas accessible by members of the general public.
